oil

#1 Post by series111 »

Hi
Now that spring is here, it is time to service and do an oil change on my Sprint. Can you tell me which oil you recommend and use in your road-going standard engine Sprint?

Usual answer. It depends!
If pottering about and not working the engine hard, any classic 20-50 oil will work just fine.
If working the engine harder, look for a higher quality oil.
VR1 is pretty good, though when I tried it it needed changing at about 3-4k
I like millers css 20-60, found it to be a very hardy oil that can take heavy use. Others like Penrite stuff.

20/50w is fine and is as the manufacturer recommended back in the day. It is still possible to find the appropriate Duckhams/castrol brand etc on ebay if you look hard enough.
