When I put the box back on i`m planning to sit the back of the engine
on a scissor jack so i can adjust the angle, then put the box on a trolley jack & offer it up
& see how it goes.
One question is there supposed to be some sort of flexible cover in the bellhousing where the clutch
actuator fork goes in?
It seems to be a rather large hole to allow the fork to pivot to be left open to the elements

The hole is covered (mainly) when the clutch cylinder is mounted, as you have probably realised by now.

Yes, box back in clutch cyl. sits over hole covering the front half.
leaving the obligatory gap for an errant washer to enter :(
Box went back in as a pretty easy one man job a few days ago.
I was expecting more grief, but my next job of refilling the brake lines
which I thought was going to be easy has turned out to be a pain as I can`t
stop two of the unions from weeping, there`s only so tight you can go...
I made the lines myself so it`s my own fault, just have to make new ones.
funny how most of them were ok though...
I guess it all averages out in the end
Joys of car restoration.

Very informative thread ive got a new clutch to go in my Dolomite 1850 . Ive got juddering on pull away so ill have a look at replacing engine and gearbox mounts. I had a look under the car today and thought i might get away with leaving gearbox support in place. Looks like a large swinging arm but dont look a benefit to drop at the rear.
BTW i dont intend doing it for a while misses wants the bathroom done.

Appologies for prev post now ive had the car up on ramps to clean underneath to try and find where the oil leak is coming from i can see the gearbox support with 2 bobbin type mounts the piece i thought was the support is actually the sub frame. The oil leak is coming from rear crank seal drbbilg out of the weep hole i will do that when i do the clutch.
