Sprint colours

Hi Group,

I am thinking about rescuing a Sprint but I am not sure about the coulour of the finished car. The actual colour of the car is blue with grey interior and I am wondering if there exist a photo gallery of Sprints in differet coulours to give me a decision help, also, what colour combinations used to exist with a grey interior?

Grey interiors were only up to 1976 and the blues available up til then were I think limited to 'Ice', 'French' and 'Sapphire'.

Ice and French I've only ever seen with black innards (in fact I've only ever seen pictures of Ice!), Sapphire usually had a light blue interior. Is your grey faded blue?

Give us a hint at what's on the commision number plate. Trimcode C78 stands for grey cloth interior. I've seen it on a Sapphire blue (code 96) Sprint.

Grey interiors were also offered with these exterior colours:
Emerald green (code 65)
Mallard blue (code 106)

I have a list that a chap put on the web a while ago that listed colours and numbers.
He stated "BLUE" colours and numbers as:-
Wedgewood Blue:26
Valencia Blue:66
Sapphire (Imperial) Blue:96
Mallard Blue:106
Ice Blue:116
Royal Blue:156
Mineral Blue:311
French Blue:126
Delft Blue:42
Tahiti: not listed
Astral Blue:140
Cavalry Blue:433

I think there maybe some blues missing and I'm lead to believe that these are "blues" throughout the Triumph range.

Hi all,
thanks for your help with paint codes. so far I learned that Triumph used a lot of blue colours but as I have not yet seen any of them I can't imagine the shade when I only see the colour code. I bought a completely rotten 77 blue Sprint (perhaps french blue as it came from France) with brown interior for spares after the experience that I had with the head of my Inca Sprint, Thanks to xvivalve who brought me a s/h head it runs. I wanted to come to Stoneleigh but I broke the clutch lever on the gearbox 2weeks ago, after lowering the engine I could fix it but it was to late for Stoneleigh. Now I have the opportunity to buy a dark blue 73 1850 automatic with (real) grey interior that had been treated with Dinitrol but which need a new paint. As my car runs now I planned to use the Sprint running gear in the Dolly 1850. As the 1850 is automatic I like the idea to build an automatic Sprint but I will need an automatic Sprint gearbox and an automatic propshaft (perhaps with your help for parts...?). I also like the grey interior so my idea was to find a matching blue colour to the grey interior but it needs to be a special colour as nowadays you see dark blue on every corner and a Sprint will not be seen. I have seen a picture of a very light blue colour but I never saw a photo of a Sprint with this colour. Does there exist a photo gallery with Sprints in different colours?

My advice....
An early 1850 auto is extremely rare and a nice car in its own right, especially with the grey interior....and if its lhd too
it could even be unique.
I expect the colour is Saphire or possibly delft blue. These are quite dark colours...similar density to Carmine red or
brooklands green...Slightly darker than the top board header...maybe not so dark as the flag.
French blue is a lot lighter...more a sky blue and like the surround for the second banner down on here.

I'd keep the 1850 auto as it is and source a new shell from something less worthy as you will have no common mechanical parts anyway....engine sub frame, prop, box and diff are all different.

Plenty of good 1500HL's in england to accept your bits...

I have to admit blue is my favourite colour for a sprint, but the number of different shades i have seen is vast
possibly the best combination i have seen is this one, tahiti blue and gold although this car was a one off wood and picket special, which if i remember rightly had black leather interior.

I have revived this thread as i have taken a break from Sprint Chassis number research for a while and have had a look at colours and trim.
Bear in mind this is currently a work in progress as i have yet to get to the final years of production but as a guide covering the earlier SPRINTS this is pretty much done.

Dolomite Sprint grey interior available on the following colours only from 1st August 1973 until 1st September 1974 - Grey Interior discontinued after this date.
CARMINE
MALLARD
EMERALD
FRENCH BLUE
SAPPHIRE BLUE

Blue interior available only on the following colours from 1st October 1973 until September 1975 – Blue interior discontinued after this date.
WHITE
ICE BLUE (Dolomite Only initially) from 20th May 1975 Available on Sprint as well
DELPHT BLUE
SAPPHIRE

British racing green available only with black or beige interior from 1st September 1974 and black interior only in 1976,
By the end of 1976 British Racing Green is dropped for Brooklands Green available in beige interior only until the end of production.

Black trim available on all colours throughout production.

Chestnut trim available 1st August 1973 with the exception dates where noted.

* There has been a lot of discussion in the passed about Mimosa Sprints only being available with black trim, it turns out this is not the case as Beige was offered as an option from late in 1974. I admit i have never seen one, but that's
not to say that a few were not box ticked back in the day. However from what i have gathered is only MAGENTA, INCA and FLEMENCO came with black trim only. (No other options were offered officially.)
The rarity of ICE Blue Sprints is clear, i have never seen one to confirm that they may have had blue interior but looking at the dates above they would be extremely rare in that combination then as well as now.
Apologies if you have a Pageant blue Sprint not got that far yet, but my belief is that Black, Beige and Chestnut were the available combinations.

If anyone has any information that may differ with this i would be interested to hear from you.
