Any experience keeping original radio style with new tech?

#1 Post by HolgerS »

I want to keep the original look but am unhappy with the old original radio without UHF. Has anybody experience with putting modern technology inside keeping the original cover on and maybe even an extension for an iPod hidden in glove box? Any additional tips how to get some good speakers hidden away somewhere in the Dolomite?

There is a company somewhere in the UK who can put an FM receiver in an original style radio, with an iPod hookup through the headphone jack, for about €150 I think. I can't remember the name though.

Someone, I can't find who although I have tried a few seacrhes, had some little fm receiver, maybe mp3 player things that played through the radio. Can't remember all the details, so not 100% sure if it will help, but remember being quite impressed at the time. Maybe richie? Alun commented on them I think....anyone remember?

I think those things transmit FM which HolgerS doesn't have the means to receive.

Yup, I still have a couple of those little FM transmitters in my garage. Doesn't help if you can't tune into UHF(FM) though.

while i appreciate and sympathise with folk who'd like to keep their cars as original as possible inside and out, personally i think the standard radio is pure shite and should be binned. i've chucked a couple and given a couple away, even one with 'Triumph' printed on it, that may have come from a TR7, acclaim or late dolly, think alun has that?

LW and AM are riddled with interference, a crap offering of stations left still transmitting on them and the head units themselves are cheap crappy yuk with no easy upgradability and crap sound output. dashboard/front parcel speaker???? come on, seriously...

if you want to leave it there for the 'look', fair enough, why not install something half decent inside the glove box? bit harder to reach from drivers seat of course but you cant have everything...
