Rimmers Dolomite Spares Day PICS & REPORT

#1 Post by 1300mash »

We had a great day today at Rimmers for the Dolly spares event and the weather was very kind to us. Took the 1300 down and had a great run. In all we had 16 cars on display most of the day and a few other members in moderns. Nice to have 3 FWDs in attendance. Someone who may wish to remain anonymous Rob Marshall let the side down by bringing a Saab 96 however....

Thanks must go to Rimmers for throwing open their doors on a Sunday and laying on food and drink for us. I enjoyed the warehouse tours which really opened my eyes to what a large scale operation they are and how much goes into getting your bits.

I came away with a couple of bargains but after seeing all the Rover SD1 panels upstairs I'm wondering if that might be the next car I ought to get!!

Thanks to Julian (Tinweevil) for manning the regalia stand most of the day too and thanks to everyone who came - I hope you all had a good day. Hopefully this will be an annual event and we can boost up the numbers too.

I was particularly taken with the red 1300 especially in view of the fact that it used to be quite a tatty little car and was originally Dolphin Grey. Two years work has seen it transformed into a real corker.

The blue Dolly 1300 in Rimmers yard is significant for me as it hails from my local BL dealer in Beverley and I used to see it being driven around by the old boy who bought it new. Bit rotten now unfortunately. Nice to see my old Carmine one in good hands though (first pic).

Who's is the red 1300FWD?? what a stunner!!!!!!!

Whats with the "eye brows" on the headlights?? I like them!!

What car are they off or are they specifically for the FWD???

I'm afraid I didn't get the chap's name  but here's a pic of it a few years ago:

Those eyebrows are fairly readily available, just need the right headlamp size. I must confess I'm not a lover of them myself, certainly not on a car this late. Bit more Ford Zodiac than 1300 :D

Used to see 'em on minis and veedub beetles. Red FWD looks nice, but I actually prefer the grey (if it had been resprayed).

Good turnout. Thanks to Julian and Justyn for flying the regalia flag.

I covered for Julian when he went on one of the warehouse tours and I've got the regalia which I'll be bringing to the Restoration Show. I'll be going the day before and staying at the Express Holday Inn on at A45 at the junction with the B4113.

I'll post my pics a bit later on.

Thanks for taking over on the stand TM, the tour was an eye opener. I knew Rimmers were big but wow. Anyone (who was not there) want to guess how many parcels they ship?

And for extra anorak points can you identfy what I'm about to put in the boot of orange in the pic?

I thought is was a good turnout. Rimmers did do a discount on the day, 10% wasn't it? I got an axle casing at the price they were in the last clearance sale so this year I will be carefully keeping all sale flyers. Although I'll probably only go next year if I've got a big shopping list as 408 miles is a fair old stomp in a day.

I hope Rimmers did OK out of the day, they deserve to. I know they are much maligned but their stock holding is simply immense. Did you know for example that they have both inner wings complete in stock? Did you know that they comissioned rear panels to be pressed on the original tooling and still have almost the entire run on the shelf? New B post anyone?

Oh and for the other two people who are also waiting for near side rear wheel arch panels the current ETA is Jan 08, I should have confirmation of that date soon.

Must be the previously mentioned inner wing. Is VA41 gonna see the road again?
