Another job for mr speedy

grrr.

thought I'd attack my turd earlier for coating of silver high temp paint.

however, seeing as jigsaw left a bolt nicely wedged in the original I'm robbing the one off my spare engine. downside - still had downpipe attached.

cleaned up manifold nicely with wire brush and proceeded to remove down pipe. not certain if the standard fitting should be studs with nuts, but mine was 2 bolts with nuts and the middle one was just a bolt into thread in manifold. anyway, the 2 outside ones came off ok, bit of WD40 applied and left for couple of hours mind you.

the middle one forced me to unleash the power of greyskull, so of course managed to get half the bolt out, no problem... the other half wanted to stay right where it was, obviously very comfy in there.

thanks mr speedy, see you this week! :smooch:

The original fixings are bolts into threads, they all seem to be helicoiled from new. These, as you have just proven, are a lousy idea.

Use studs, stainless washers and brass nuts. Make sure the unthreaded shank of the stud isn't too long and trim the studs to remove all but a couple of turns of excess. It'll never be a problem again an dead easy to undo even in the car.
