Got to be Paint first, get as much protection on that metal as you can before the vinyl / watertrap goes on there.....

Hmmm! thought as much. I just thought that if I put it on first I wouldn't have to tip toe around the newly painted shell.

Mart, paint first.

The final paint finish will just need a 'flatting' to remove the shine and give a good key for the adhesive.

Having done Red Ritchies at the Stoneleigh show it is quite easy, although many hands to hold the vinyl up whilst spreading/laying it middle out makes for light work.

I wouldn't want to attempt to do one on my own on a windy day for example and I wouldn't attempt without three people

I wonder if it would be easier to do with the car on its side.
Did you make a spit in the end mart or not.

I got on with my favourite bit today, stripping & rebuilding the engine. :D

Picture this: Engine on engine stand, me sat on an old dining room chair measuring the valve clearances. Mary comes in with tea & mince pies. So I'm sat in the middle of my garage scoffing away. Priceless.

Mart that block is an absolute disgrace...
It has rust in the water jacket and is clearly in need of a lick of paint...

Do we finally see a chink in the armour....?

dives for cover smirking...

btw happy new year to one of our most inspiring dolomiters...

Note from Admin: sadly Jon passed away in February 2018 but his humour and wealth of knowledge will be fondly remembered by all. RIP Jonners.

I did one on my own a few years ago inside a nice warm workshop, but I used the right Dunlop glue(its a double stick job),and coated the roof first and let dry,and then spread the glue on the vinyl in sections as I went take your time and you need some fresh air as you could end up a little high :D

Oh! Jonners, patience, I've only just stripped it. It will be cleaned up & a nice coat of black enamel will be applied. No chinks in my armour.

Got started on the other wing repair today. Thanks to David (6214) for sifting through his spare wings, but I went with a club repair panel in the end. Thanks Alun.

Not sure, I don't think the gearbox is the original and I can't find the engine no. on the block. David6214 will probably shed some light on it.
