Engine running hot with 45's

I've recently put 45's on my sprint and it seems to be running hot. Even after taking out the thermostat and using a better coolant. Any advice!

Have you had your car tuned on a rolling road? it's pretty much impossible to get it running right on Webers without a proper setup by someone who knows what they are doing. It sounds like you are running lean, does it accelerate when you pull the choke out on a warm engine?

Recently had it rolling road tuned but with not much success (I think they're more geared up for scoobies etc). Standard engine, replaced SU's for 45s but still running lumpy. Any advice on main jet size, chokes, emulsion tubes, idle jets?
Any infomation would be graetly appreciated for setting them up.

Standard engine apart from the 45s? apart from the noise here's really not much point as the SUs are good for 160bhp and you won't get much more than 150 out of it without a decent cam. All of the Leyland Special Tuning notes are for the warmer cams and 48 DCOEs so I don't know how much help they'll be.

You should find a rolling road that can properly set up old cars, I'm sure a few people will be able to give you some ideas. Did you do the rolling road before fitting the Webers?

no i fit the webers before the rolling road ,ive just been out to give it a run,and its dying a death when potering in 3rd and you accelerate there is nothing there untill you rev it up. i no its running rich coz of the smoke its chuffing out is this somthing to do with other jets

That really was a rubbish rolling road if they left it that rich. The carbs are certainly set up completely wrong for your engine, especially in standard tune. In all honesty I would suggest going back to the SUs as they will run a standard engine a lot better, and with much better economy.

I agree with Dave. Total waste of time just fitting the 45s unless you have changed the cam to a "fast road" or STR91 and changed to a sports exhaust.

I think dave and Mart are right, better off going back to the su's. The the webbers are that far out it will be pricy to change all the jets and all you will gain is mpg. If you take it to a rolling road it needs to be to someone that specializes in carbs and has spare just so they can try them and see. Ther is definatly an art to getting them to run well.

thanks a lot lads.i think i have gone to far now ,in for a penny in for a pound,the cam was the next job. the rolling road tune was john noble motorsport in chesterfield he was well recomended.i think the next step is bogg brothers at malton near ripon there a bit more old school..thanks for everybodys help leigh

A rolling road is only a tool, like a torque wrench, in the hand of skilled operator you can do wonder full things with it.
In the hand of a criminal you easily can knock down and kill someone with it.

Give yourself a few days holiday, come over, and I'll set your sprint up, by now you should know, I know this engine, and we have ALL the Weber calibration parts available , over 600 types, so no drilling soldering etc. just picking the new parts from the shelf, quick and efficient.
