Retro & Sportscar Action Day @ Castle Combe
Re: Retro & Sportscar Action Day @ Castle Combe
Not sure 'the good lady' will be up for it, Jon - She'll be 7 1/2 months 'gone' by then - All she wants to do, is eat and sleep at the moment; don't expect she'll fancy hanging around CC all day - though I could be completely wrong, and she might relish the change of scenery ?

I have the passes.
I also had a call from Maria at CC today apologising for sending them to HQ again. Thanks to Andy for forwarding them on.
There are several free admission passes (£10 on the day) if anyone wants to join us on the club stand (preferably in a Dolly).

I'm going to "try" and get there in a dolly. It'll be a very slow bit of track action from me if I do.

Hope it's dry; but, could do without it being as warm as today.... will roast in the assembly area, if it is. Bloody English - always complaining about the weather
Plan ?.... Have as much fun as possible; P' off as many boy racers as possible; damage car as little as possible (ideally, not at all).
Oh, I see... Favouritism

Got my pass today, cheers Mart.
Still hoping to get the 1850 done for saturday, but to be honest it's not likely.

Re: Retro & Sportscar Action Day @ Castle Combe
You got the passes sorted out, mate. Present enough for me
Just told Martin about tonight's events; thought I'd share with the rest of you:
There's always something to set me back - Took the car out for a quick run around the block tonight to loosen things up and scrub the rust off the brakes - All of a sudden pedal goes straight to the floor... no brakes !!! A sharp yank on the handbrake brought me to an embarrassing tyre-screeching halt (could have been a lot worse). Clean underpants, please ! Limped home at 5 mph, hand firmly gripping the handbrake lever. Brake fluid all over the rear nearside wheel - I've burst the seal in the wheel cylinder
Got no spare repair kit (except for Sprint ones, which are no good for a Toledo axle) ! Just ordered a pair from Rimmers; hopefully they'll be here in a day or two.
I reckon it was a blessing in disguise; bursting the seal out on track doesn't bear thinking about !!!

Mad Mart your pressy is due for services to braking over several years (hence no favouritism
)
As for bursting brakes Chris, I once did the same at around the magic "ton" on my TR4
I had to take a different side turning
and use the handbrake to get home.
Passes arrived safely big thanks Mart.
Good luck with the seals Chris.

Re: Retro & Sportscar Action Day @ Castle Combe
Jon's bringing me some beer.
"Old Speckled Hen" please, or "Bombardier" or "Tanglefoot" or .............
Thought I'd take the track Sprint out tonight. I haven't run it for a couple of weeks & you know how these things get if they're not used. Anyway, started up OK so off I trundle. Pretty good at low revs. Got to the dual carriageway & floored it but it didn't like it much past 3000rpm, I just couldn't get it to go. So back to base, bonnet up, scratch head, hmmm! I'll fiddle with the dizzy. Dizzy cap was quite loose & you could twist it quite easily a few mm. The rotor arm was also a tad loose, so I tightened both up, then fitted a new set of plugs. Wow!, that worked, that was lucky.
Roll on Saturday.

Re: Retro & Sportscar Action Day @ Castle Combe
Yippee !... I have brakes... which tend to be a bit useful at track days
Rimmers 'did the biz' and my nice new wheel cylinders arrived today
Decided not to 'bugger about' and take any chances with the brakes and seals, and just go for new cylinders for my own peace of mind. I figured that if one seal 'went'; there's a good chance that the other one is not far behind ?! For the sake of £25; I'll be a lot happier and confident that the brakes should be spot on... especially now I've binned the old liners (one side was contaminated with brake fluid, anyway !) and fitted a nice new set of Mintex shoes. We'll find out on Saturday if they're any good ?...

No luck with the 1850 (clutch from ebay hasn't come) so the fiesta will be going on a diet tonight.

Misfire on sidedrafts is normal according to Dave Sideways Mart I have had the same twice and at £5 a set of NGK's I shove a new set in each track day now.

Please tell me it's a complete clutch, and not just the friction plate ?... I've got 2 new 1850 friction plates sat in my garage ! Been wanting to 'play' with another 1850 for ages.DavePoth wrote:No luck with the 1850 (clutch from ebay hasn't come) so the fiesta will be going on a diet tonight.
Spent tonight replacing a 'shot' upper ball-joint (MoT man gave it an advisory) on Tara, and a final 'once over' in readiness for Saturday. Left the battery on trickle charge (it was as dead as a dodo ?!); should be ready to go, tomorrow. Another quick run tomorrow night, just to make sure nothing else has come adrift; then, get her loaded up with all the usual track day 'ballast' for Saturday. I'm almost excited

or, a knee in the temple and a dagger up the ******** !trackerjack wrote:MMMMMMMMMMMMM a present eh, is it a sharp blow on the head?
No, Jon; but, that could be arranged for a nominal fee

Don't want to spoil the surprise; suffice to say it's sticky
