Triplecustard had the jackshaft journals repaired on his Sprint. There is reference to it on page 2 of his "Nearly finished" thread.

This type of wear is a result of poor maintenance? Regular oil changes and the correct oil filter are important.
It is not original I know but, you can fit a magnetic sump plug to a Sprint too.

As Ian said, I had same problem. A good engine reconditioner can fix this.

Yes my aim was to have a car that was as usable as a modern car is, but without loosing the Sprints character.

Those under wing shots are incredible, looksa s though it's had about 12 months road use looking at those.

Mike were the plastic shields still fitted or fallen off years ago?

As an aside, powdercoating is also much, much better for the environment, since there are no nasty chemicals involved. Hopefully mine will look as good when it comes back.

Looking at Dolly Mixture, ST style adjustable tie bars are in stock, although twice the price of what you paid.

Looking good indeed Mike.

Did you get new water shields (216907) for the track control arm bushes? Didn't Dollyboy have difficulty locating these short ago?
Rimmers' website does still list them as available.
The ones on my car were past being useful, but I put Superflex bushes in, so the shields were not necessary.



Enjoying this thread. Watching it take shape as it goes back together is the best.

It's great to see so much work going on. I'll be interested to see if the theory of repair, dip then return to paint works out. You've obviously spent a lot of time stripping everything down so hopefully the SPL process won't find too much more. Are you going for the Electro coat as well?

I shouldn't worry too much about the grommets. SPL made pretty quick work of all of the rubber bits I forgot about. :D

Dipping that shell would be madness IMHO...
Far better to just repair and prep the outside...flat back, repair and locally paint what you cant see inside...

I'm never convinced all those nasty chemicals that remove the paint are ever really got rid of...and they certainly aid and abett rusting in your newly stripped and unprotected shell..
