I've just been watching that film (after watching the original for the umpteenth time the other night). I didn't spot one S2000, mind you they're crap for drifting, no torque you see.

Oh!, nice job btw Jon. :D Didn't make yer track buddy one at the same time per chance?
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. :boggle2: ... Still Sprintless.

A new spigot bush is fitted just in case.

All parts must have clean oil added before assembly,
if it does not turn easily by hand something is wrong

Image

I hate countersunk screws so I use some threadlock on them these screws hold the jackshaft keep plate down.

Image

I put the open ends of the rings opposite each other of course.

Seriously? I'd have guessed exotic materials and or treatements would be required. Always ready to be educated.

Oh loving this topic. Though reminds me how much I miss the machine shop and the convenience it provides :(

Would so love to get back into this.

Keep the pics and info coming

This is the frame fitted and dowelled

Image

Even the sump is spotless as we dont want any grit or swarf in the engine.
Image

Oil pump pick up fitted (we had a BMW 323i once that was only three years old and those Bavarian spanner monkeys did not tighten one of these up and no surprise sudden oil pressure loss). I used thread lock to glue plate to bottom of engine, a smear of instant gasket on the alloy plate to gasket and grease on the gasket to sump.
Image
This the correct filter if not using a remote one or a spin on conversion, some filters have a stuck on end seal which must not be fitted (this actual block was nearly chocked off with the remains of one!
Image
Top up the filter with oil if you dont want the engine suffering bearing failure on startup.
Image
This shows a support block err supporting.

Yeh get some Titanium and a nice steel crank then make an alloy block from a billet....................woa hold on there musky.
Our engines when compared with modern ones are rubbish, but in their day.............they were not.
We can do all sorts of things and any direction you move will find a weakness.
I have 200 BHP of Ford Cosworth hanging on a chain in my garage with torque to match (thats what gives the speed 8) ).

But if I dont rebuild the Sprint lump on a budget (I am not rich) I might as well go out and buy a Nissan Turbo nutter car and blow everybodys car away next track day :?

I love people coming up and being surprised at the original engine and often older race instructers who have raced them in their day are very interested. I would soon tire of a Turbo nutter Jap car.

I thought you could just use the machines when u were able or had free time or machine was idle
If so 4 pieces of nice steel  would not break the bank and you could machine at your convenience
If i still had the chance to use lathes ,millers etc etc
I would try and make everything that i possibly could :(
The engine plate looks the dogs dangleys

Awe Ken when I saw you had put something on the thread I panicked  I thought oh no He,s gonna tell me that something I have done has not worked before etc, oh and yes Ken the dipstick hole is there, you can see it just behind the oil pick up pipe :) phew I worry when the master is looking over the shoulder :D

Yes DF it can be interesting to be able to knock stuff up, which is where my brakes came from and in the past I have made various things like solid carb mounts etc.
It is only recently that I have bothered much with engines because I have always thought that the handling and associated items are more important.
The trouble is some folk think I am trying to create a really fast engine and in truth I am merely trying to improve on what I had as there is no money for hotter cam or professional head work etc so when its done I would be chuffed if it makes 170 bhp which is not a lot for a modern 2 litre.

I am pleased that you all like the thread though.

Some years ago when I was in the TR Register and regularly competing in sprints and hillclimbs, I was making antirollbars for TR2-3 and various other bits but as such is life I did not pursue it but my hobby could easily have become a business.
A large crash in a friends TR5 (I had to sell my Stag to pay for it) at Goodwood plus a young family at the time meant that going self employed making weapons was very lucrative (over 40K in the 80,s) so making little parts stopped to chase the buck :D
Its just that my trade are not making money any more and as each year goes by effective wages are going backwards soon I shall give up and change trades again or deal in cars in some way.
