Phil, I work in Borehamwood and live in North London. Could happily come over and have a look at the car. I also have a 1300 Dolomite and a 1300 Toledo (very similar to a Dolomite but with a couple of cosmetic and other slight changes). Oldmotorlikerer (Colin) is also a Herts bloke. Although I'm not an expert I know my 1300 quite well. Happy to help in any way. By the way, I paid £102 for my Dolomite and £76 for my Toledo, both have huge histories and lowish miles and run very well indeed. These cars are CHEAP! Go for it :D I also have a friend who is getting to know my Triumphs quite well (he's a good mechanic for the older type car but really only loves his steam engines).

Good luck

Ken

Wow, where to start ? So much feed back..
bifold wrote:may I be rude an ask how much
The asking price is £550, although I am very confident I would be able to get the price down.
1300dolly wrote:how many miles had the replacment engine done when it was fitted?
That's a very good question I had never even though of. I will make sure I raise this.

Dollyboy, alot of things I'll consider, thank you. As I've said I'm in Hertforsdhire, the car is in Middlesex. If a club member could/would come with me I would very extremely grateful as the more feedback I'm receiving the more I'm feeling out of my depth.

Like I have said, if you could find the time I would be extremely grateful.

I'll be phoning the seller tomorrow with the hope of arranging a viewing for next Saturday afternoon. Are those who would be willing to come along be free then ?

Phil

:EDIT:

purplebargeken, the Dolomite you paid £102 for - did you have to do alot of work on that ?

As you can see Phil, you are never on your own when you get involved with Triumphs :D. There are always offers of help and advice, no matter what the problem is.

Hi Phil, Saturday afternoon should be ok. Let me have times and addresses and I could meet you there.

Little White Dolly needed:

Nothing doing to the interior which was mint.

General service

Voltage regulator (from the club)

Exhaust tailpipe welding back on, a 2" weld on a chassis rail, some cosmetic bodywork, a brake piston, a couple of tyres and a battery. None of it earth shattering stuff but totally consistant with her having been standing for a while. If I recal about £180 worth of work, if that.

Is the seller a dealer or a private seller?

Cheers

Ken

Bugger, Mrs. PB has reminded me that I'm in Wickford (Essex) for the whole of Saturday 20th Jan, damn, damn, damn. Could you and the seller do the Sunday as I am free for the whole day or any other day after the 20th?????? Sorry +++++ Phil

It's all go here init?

Go for it Phil, it doesn't hurt to have a look even if you don't buy it. You will get a feel for what is good/bad and doable.

I'll get straight to the point about my knowledge of Dolomites:- Not a lot! only theory!

It's only what i have read on here. Only seen one 'up close and personal' which had been stashed in a barn for a good few years and need a complete resto.

I do however have a reasonable amount of savvy, having tinkered about thru the years with various old Fiesta, Escort, Cortina, Granada, Metro, Astra type things.

I would offer my limited knowledge in looking at this car for you no sweat but from what I've read you're in safe hands with Ken.

I would say if it is any good and you do buy it. When something needs fixing or checking, ask on here and try to have a go yourself. Most of the day to day stuff is easy. I would think even the most inexperienced person would be able to check and replace oil, water, lights, trim etc. So long as they have 2 arms and 2 legs

The quickest way to learn something is ask and have a go yourself. Even if you make a pigs ear of it, someone will be able to help.

Good luck and above all else, enjoy :D

P.S I am in Stortford if you need a hand.

I've been thinking about what I said yesterday, having no mechanical skills, but this morning thought you've got to learn some time so yeah, I think I wouldn't mind having a go.. I'll keep people's offer of help very close by though !

Well I feel I'm going to disappoint quite a few people.. after phoning up this morning to arrange a viewing it has been sold ! :(

I guess the hunt is on to find another one. Thanks for everyone's help, I'll keep you posted. Similarly, if anyone comes across one for sale with a similar budget a PM or post in here would be great.

No worries Phil. It happens sometimes. Might be worthwhile you coming along to the spares show at Stoneleigh in Feb. There are often cars for sale there. Keep an eye on ebay as well. Plus you might also check out the For Sale section on the forum. Don't forget Autotrader and Loot.

The offer of help will remain open, so no worries there ok. A car will turn up :)

Actually, why don't you pm Dollyturbo (Neil). He lives in Northamptonshire and has a 2 door toledo for sale, just needs a little bit of cosmetic work if I remember correctly (easily done) and it's within your budget.

I might just do that. I had a look on Multimap today though and I couldn't even find the train line. Anyone have any ideas of what the closest station to it is and how for away it is?

If you want a lift I'm pretty sure we could sort something out. I'll be travelling up with Oldcarlikerer (Colin). Maybe we could sort something out between us.

OlcMOTORLikerer...

Cor dear GreenShoveBen, you're losing it :P

It's true though Phil, we are both driving up on the day. I also have no real idea where it is but am sure this is the website.

I get the pleasure of setting up my company's exhibition stand at the IIPSEC show at the end of Jan so I should know how to get there for 11th Feb.

Back to the point, I m sure we could pick you up or meet you somewhere, don't worry about the train, we will sort something out nearer the time.

'c' is just a 'd' with no 'l'

I blame the fact I use the computer on my telly downstairs, not very clear on the screen sometimes :chortle:

Phil grab the offer of a lift if you can as the closest train station to stonliegh is either Coventry or Lemington spa, and are both quite a distance from the show ground!!

Oldmotorlikerer you said:-
I also have no real idea where it is but am sure this is the website.
If your travelling up with Ken then he has my phone number, i live bout 10min drive from stoneleigh so if your not sure then i could meet you somewhere in coventry and we could go in convoy to the show!!

Its just an idea if your really not sure where it is!!

Phil its a great show with some cars forsale, its where i joined the club last year.......

 membership renewal!!
