a return to RAF Cosford nr Telford
Personally, I would welcome another chance to visit Cosford. Last time we were there I spent so much time looking around the exhibits I missed the prizegiving!! Fortunately, one of my fellow Sou'Westerners picked my prize up for me. I also agree that any future show should have a contrasting feature to keep everyone happy and therefore don't really see a problem with revisiting places like Gaydon, Beaulieu or Duxford (as I've only been to each of them once). Who remembers the almost exclusive display we had at Duxford when two flights took off for planned shows but "did a twirl" for us before they left!! Brilliant! I would probably not be too enthusiastic to go back to Hatton or Beale as trees don't generally interest me. Any one know of a stately home or two which would accommodate us? Isn't there an event in Yorkshire at such a place - Thoresby Hall?
While on the topic, very glad to give any advice to future event planners tho' to be honest this is just down to following a logical process and keeping tabs on any progress. If I had had a bit more time (don't forget, in my job as Examinations Timetabling here at Plymouth, I am snowed under from January to May) perhaps I might have been able to give more attention to other details such as prizes for various reasons (distance travelled, car (or dog) of the day.

Had an idea yesterday - what about Bletchley Park? This is the place where the German codes were decyphered during the war and this place is a great attraction. It is also closer to the Midlands/Northern based guys. If you look at
http://www.bletchleypark.org.uk you'll see what it has to offer.
Although I can't volunteer to assist in organising anything, I did contact them just out of interest and they tell me they would be pleased to accept a car show. Even better, (and this may please some of you who were looking to bring our event forward) they do have a classic car day usually in late June into July. They haven't yet decided on a date for 2010 but the cost would be just about £5 to park the car with free entry to the attraction (I think that was what they told me - which, if correct, is a great deal!). If our show was to be at a different date to their classic car day the cost of entry to the site would have to
be levied.
Anyway - thought I'd chip that one in. If you want to consider this the person to talk to is Victoria at Bletchley on 01908 272656.

Bletchley Park... where I learnt to drive (and discovered underground tunnels). Ten minutes from me, Mike, would be happy to help you.

I've made this comment in the members section but basically as someone who organises events and markets them for a living I am happy to help out as part of a wider team. I'm sure I can provide some useful input.

Bletchley Park would get my vote (if it still counts cos I've been away from here for ages

)
I'd vote on the grounds of;
1, Never been there
2, Family friendly
3, Something non-car related for the Mrs. and her mates
4, Good facilities for food and hiding from any bad weather etc?
5, Within 100miles of home
I'm still gutted I couldn't make this years TDCIR but we might be moving soon and as Murray would say...
It's......GO!!...GO!!...GO!!

Even topical now that Gordon has vicariously apologised...how magnaminous of him.
Maybe someone will apologise for Gordon in 50 years or so and then everything will be ...alright???

Maybe we could go crazy and have it in Scotland?? Or anywhere north of Leeds??
I know it's never going to happen but someone has to ask...

I know, I was being cheeky!
But yes, I don't feel ready to leap in and organise a full TDCIR or Scottish Dolly Day, but I am putting my hand up to organise a club stand at the Selkirk show next year as a way of gauging the level of interest in Scotland, how many members would travel to attend from Scotland and maybe northern England etc etc - as something we've never done before it would be awful to organise a Dolly Day and have a poor response, so I think a trial on a smaller scale first would be good. I'm sure we can still sell a few spares (I can easily get hold of Allan Cassie) and sign up members, and maybe even have a prize on the day for the best car or something (the jaguar club stand seemed to be doing that at Selkirk last week).
So there you go. Lots of interest for 2010 already here for Bletchley Park, we'll do Selkirk, and see what 2011 brings!

Bletchley Park, sounds great. My parents went there a couple of weeks ago and spent half a day going round it and didn't get to finish seeing it. Suppose to be good all round location
The other thought I had for a future venue is the 'cars the stars' up in Cumbria, but I am not sure whether we have any members near enough to orgainse it
Scotland, hmmm I have always thought about taking my sprint up into scotland, maybe a Scottish Dolly Day may be the incentive for me to do it

Hi Y'all
Talking about not having much in the northern area for the TDCIR - what about Tatton Park? Arley Hall? Oulton Park? to name just a few - two of the above are stately homes and Oulton Park may (not checked yet but will do some phoning round to see if its possible) let us use their grounds for a club meeting this special?
Cheshire is full of Large Stately homes that probably would accomodate us with plenty of other activities around for those not wanting to listen to the car banter!
COME ON GUYS - there doesn' t seem to be much on for us Northerners?
