Who would like to Volunteer to organise TDCIR 2010

#1 Post by David6214 »

At TDCIR 2008 we had a couple of volunteers for organising this years event. As yet I am not aware of who may be organising 2010.

I thought I'd ask around here and maybe put something in a forthcoming magazine. I have opened a thread in club members with some suggestions for improvements in future years which may be of some assistance to whoever volunteers. I am also sure that Mike (Yellow Banana), and various others who have organised past events would happily give the benefit of their experiences if requested.

So who would like to volunteer and where might we be heading...

I'd like to see an invitation from the more northern members...if not you may all have to put up with yet another Midlands event!

I'd quite like to see Kent or Essex...

At one point midlands every other year was suggested with other areas in the intervening so midlands may well be the candidate anyway...

When the whole list of volunteers are in we will be able to choose

Ok, I have just sent a message to the Ace to see if they would be interested in hosting a London based TDCIR 2010.

What do ya reckon?

Too noisy and sod all to do. You roast on the tarmac if it's hot and a gale blows through the place most other times. You can see quite a long way in certain directions but you won't see a blade of grass. A day breathing north circular fumes bellowing at one another to be heard with nothing to eat but various forms of deep fried lard is not a day I'd enjoy.

Next.

Right then. How about Whitewebbs Museum of Transport. Just a couple of minutes from the M25.

They have lovely old vehicles on display, a spares shop and there is a pub just down the road that hosts CT RBRR, so we could have a Triumph lunch or dinner perhaps.

Any better?

Oh, and it has trees and grass nearby too.

Personally speaking, I think the best TDCIR's that we have had in the past are those situated at a location that will appeal to those both motoring and non motoring minded.
Talking paint shades and vin numbers all day is all good stuff, but many wives/girlfriends/children etc can be put off...

Wildlife parks, shops, gardens etc all make for a welcome alternative to the joy of our annual rally (so i'm told!)

The idea of having the next TDCIR in Kent/Essex area appeals to me.It would be nice to try somewhere different other than the usual locations ie, Gaydon, Duxford etc. Hatton Country World in Warwickshire is another idea for the Midlands area. From what I remember there is plenty of grass/parking and an animal farm for the young family members.I think it's important to have a location that offers other activities and things to do so that it can encourage more family members to attend, other than looking at rows of Triumphs.

I think it would also be a good idea to have some awards for best dolly/tolly etc of the day.Dog of the day, members favourite etc.

The Ace Cafe folk have just replied. They would be very happy to host the TDCIR but in view of folks thoughts on venues I don't see it happenening.

HOWEVER, it might be useful to utilise it as a London Area event, asking other Clubs if they want to attend and asking a few traders too. Sorry to hijack but I will start a seperate thread later.

Cheers

We talked a few years ago about a return to RAF Cosford nr Telford. Midlands I know but arguably a great location for a day out.
