There are two types of left foot braking. In a front wheel drive you brake and keep the power on into the bend. This upsets the balance of the car by moving the weight forward allowing the car to oversteer round the bend. Preventing it from washing out in the bend with under steer. Which can be very prevelant with the LSD used. Mainly used on gravel. With a rwd you can use put your boot down to get the back end out. So it is only at advantage is if you have a dog box, so can change gear without a clutch you can use on foot to accelerate and the other to brake. Meaning quick reaction on the brakes.
As for heal and toe. As jon say just use the side of you foot.
