Some interesting comment here regarding the output of the heater. My experience is quite the reverse in that I have always found the heater, both on the feet and the screen to be more than adequate. It’s a far better unit that what is fitted in my Chrysler based Sunbeam which is right awful.

The centre vent – for the upmarket Dolly owners who have one! I remember taking a scalpel blade to mine and carefully trimming the felt which surrounds the rotating bit and which was preventing it from rotating and closing properly. Not a difficult job but a bit fiddly.

The foam. As Jeroen has hinted – oh he is a smart lad even if his work boots are wooden and painted orange - those sponges collapse and the hot/cold air goes every which way. As they say!

I put new foam all around my heater, where it needed it and have not done much else. And I can report that my heater is very efficient.

I have not played with the plastic screen vents – I have had no need to but they would certainly be worth investigating to see if they are restricting the airflow in some way.

Are the rear flaps under the lip at the back of the roof functioning correctly. Are they allowing the moist air in the car to leave the car? To be honest I have not actually figured out how they vent the car interior but I assume they were put there for a purpose.

I too have a couple of spare heater boxes, free to anybody who wants to drop by and collect them!

Tony

two pictures attached showing the direction of air flow. There is a flap situated above the heater matrix - if the control is set in the cold position the flap drops and prevents the air flow passing through the matrix

Cold air direction in blue.

if the control is set in the hot position the flap is in the up right position, allows the air to pass through the matrix thus hot air and blocks the direction of the cold air.

Hot air direction in red.
Image

Also there is a flap at the bottom of the housing which opens or closes - if screen is selected the flap is closed and no hot air goes to the footwells. Screen and car selected heat goes to both.

The flow of air alters is direction when ever an increase or decrease in temperature is selected.

Hope my explanation is understood.

Thats very good Paul thanks. It may be just the lower flap that alters screen or feet thats not sealing then. It doesnt feel like the slight breeze of warm coming from the lower is enough to rob the screen of air but its worth looking at first i reckon :)
