Identical parts are often cheaper if they are sold for other models.
Please do enlighten us.
Ian.
A good example is the 1500/1300, if you search for Spitfire parts, you can often find them cheaper than going to Dolly specialists. Sellers seem to putt a premium on parts for the rarer car.
When I looked for starters I found that it was cheaper to search for TR7 parts, than ones that fit Dollys. My guess is because the TR7 was sold in American, there is a bigger market for parts.
Which specific Dolomite 1300 part numbers?
Who are the Dolomite specialists to whom you are referring? The only ones I know of is TDC Spares and Sprintspeed.
There did used to be Sprintspares in Essex but they sold up almost 20 years ago.
With the starter motor, you not comparing like with like because the starter you bought is not for a TR7 Sprint.

Sprint duplex timing chain tensioner: £9 (the cheap Rolon one which falls apart)
Jaguar duplex timing chain tensioner: £30 (the quality part for the more common car that doesn't fall apart)
Identical looking parts with different part numbers, the one for the rarer car being cheaper.
A TR7 starter motor is NOT identical to a Sprint one; however, they resemble each other and each will fit both cars, but I suspect the use of a TR7 starter on a Sprint engine would be short lived, but possibly a potential upgrade on an 1850. Had the same part been suitable for both cars, then they'd share the same part number; an example being TKC101, a common part number across several makes and models.

Your right about the starter, all I can say is it hasn't blown up yet.
By specialists I mean companies that list parts for dollys, I often found I could get a better deal by looking at companies that listed the same point but say for a spitfire and an MG Midget. I assume because there is more competition in that market.
Saying that I have always found Robsport reasonable and they have a pretty comprehensive range of dolly parts.
