How good are those plug tubes at keeping oil of the spark plug caps, without benifit of gasket goo, and what inside diameter are they?

Its very common for ignition timing to go out when resetting the chain tension.
Its pretty hard to get all the scribe lines on sp[rockets and tdc to line up with the engine in the car and the timing cover
off. As long as you have correct synch on cam and crank you can get the dizzy right with a combination of the right
tooth and the sliding slot adjustment. If you cant reach where you want with the slots pop it up and round one tooth and try again.

Did you get a proper tensioner? We have had a lot of reproduction ones loose the slipper pad with bad results.
Has to be a reynolds one. Alun Nicholas is your man...

Best to get this right now. You can re-use your old one if the grooves arent too deep. 1 mm is fine..

An update:-
Turned the distributor 180, set the static timing and abracadabra she runs. Just need to set the timing and carbs up and she's a goer.
Just need to get it past the mgf parked in front of the garage which must have been feeling left out and has now burst a displacer unit and leaning like a drunken sailor.

It never stops. :(

Many thanks to all the people who helped with advice and bits.
