More twists to the tail, just checked the DVLA records on my X reg 1982 mg Dolomite, and it appears the car was built in 1973!! Then registered in 1982!! It's not been imported as far as I can work out any one got any ideas?

Cheers

It probably has been imported, they just never bothered recording it as such back then and would have given the car a current registration number when registered.

If you want comparison photos I've got a 1622 engine but it's still in the MGA  90hp sounds about right, they go pretty well and can easily top a ton.

Worth checking the head too.. the 1622 should have the big valve head. Look for a 15 16 or 18 on the flat surface behind the rocker cover at the back of the head. It should be 16 or 18 (early MGB).

Got the log book back today and it states the engine number is 48G making it a Goldseal engine, this is followed by 3 numbers then the letters AD, anyone know what that means?

Cheers

Hi Steve, I think you may have the same data I found on the www. a lot of which contains the same info; but with some glaring spelling mistakes on different web-sites.
http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/engine/be100.htm

Right at the bottom of this one there is the info; I think you have but with the additional info; that the last letters are to do with oversize machining and Job number.
Tony.

Yep that's the site I found it out on. So I know for sure its an 1622 Goldseal lump, but it is what the previous owner claimed an MGA engine? That's the main question

This car was on ebay a few years ago. Was listed as 1972 then, but got pulled early if I remember. Always wondered what happened to it as memorable with MG engine. Listing never showed any under bonnet photos
