John, before you "take up the baton" what about putting a final call out to the members (and by this I do appreciate that not all members use the forum - I only come up now and again!) to see, once and for all. if anyone else intends to take it on. Give them a deadline of, say, three weeks, then if no other offers, take it forward. Then
the next thing is to decide on a venue. Simples ...eeeek !!

This is a subject that need to go in DM, as nearly all members, with the exception of the few who visit here think that
1: The TDC is ran by all the 'staff' from one location
2: That the comittee members have regular get togethers to discuss and arrange meets and shows
3: think that i am Andy because they are incapable of reading the first two pages of DM and that i sit of front of the phone all day waiting for it to ring.

My point beiang that 99% of members dont have a clue what is going on So i persoanally think that a full or half pages article fron Andy or steve asking for members input and maybe help in volunteering,im sure that there are a lot of suitable venues of there that we have overlooked.

We're currently investigating the possibility of holding a weekend-long event in the midlands.
A provisional itinery is as follows;

On the Saturday afternoon, members will be invited to take a ride on a classic bus to the historic town of Ironbridge (http://www.ironbridge.org.uk/) where they will be able to visit museums, do some sightseeing, shopping or enjoy a drink or meal in this charming area of Shropshire. The idea is that members who have driven a fair distance to attend TDCIR will be able to park up at the nominated hotel, freshen up and then spend the afternoon enjoying a relaxing trip to a really nice part of England. The transport will be provided free of charge.

Returning to the hotel, members will be given the opportunity to freshen up and then enjoy a relaxing meal before being treated to a presentation by a well known Triumph personality before taking part in a pub quiz.

On the Sunday, the main event will take place at RAF Cosford Museum (http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/cosford/). Admission is free and there are lots of new attractions to explore. There are catering facilities on site and a gift shop etc.
Club Spares and regalia will be available, there will be an informal concours competition, autojumble and other attractions to be announced in due course.

The date is yet to be finalised but is likely to be mid to late September. Nothing is set in stone, this is just a proposal.

I should also add that there have been some very interesting venues mentioned earlier in this thread. If there are dedicated local volunteers who would like to arrange an event (a regional Dolly Day perhaps?) at these venues, then the Club would give them its FULL support.

So, if a newish member with no official standing within the club were to ask at, say, Beamish, about the possibilities they could offer, given that the site is well-attended by other car clubs as diverse in their nature as 2CVGB and the Bentley owners, then would that be OK, or should such an approach come from someone who bears office, such as Graham Telfer, whose name I only know by looking him up in DM a moment ago?

It doesn't make any difference who organises an event as long as A) they are a paid up Club member (if they aren't then we won't be insured!!!) and B) they are committed (it has happened on frequent occasions in the past that a member volunteers to run an event, then lets us down at the last minute leaving someone else to clean up the mess). It would be courteous to make your local Area Rep aware of your plans, but you don't have to e a Club official to volunteer your services.

i think the venue and the option of making it into a weekend for some people is a great idea

How about this as a suggestion for discussion but not an invite to be flamed!

TSSC have their International Weekend at Stafford Showground in August (20th-22nd).
How about holding a weekend event there over the same period?
Advantages....
On good road links.
Its the 40th Anniversary of the Toledo and FWD so joining forces this once might be benefical for the marque. I know Andy Burford the TSSC small saloon register sec is crying out for cars. He's also a TDC member.
The TSSC committee have worked very hard to make it a family weekend as the comments on "nothing do do for the non-car enthusiasts" is quite right. There are loads of family events organised plus Stafford and its locality.
There is a planned indoor display for the saloons on the Saturday and concours for those interested on the Sunday.
Lots of Traders and probably room for the TDC shop too.
Probably the largest gathering of the Triumph range in the UK.
Camping on-site. Quiet and noisy areas are segregated.
I think there was a face painter there last year (for the kids anyway!)
On-site tune up service.
Bars, food and a Friday night Race night for a welcome.
Saturday knees up (real-ale).
Runs organised and cars on the field outside can enter-exit at any time.
Disadvantages.
Too great a distance for some but a weekend events helps.
I can't see many other than the thought that the TDC is somehow loosing out to the TSSC which wouldn't be the case in my humble opinion.
I know for a fact that the TSSC COM would be more than happy to discuss this and to ensure that both clubs got recognition.
The venue is already organised!
