Tommorw is going to be a big day tomorrow.

Weather is ment to be ok so we are going for it tomorrow on the Tolly with starting it up and getting her ready for her Mot Next month.

Everything has been put back together and checked, battery is on charge and should be ready by morning.
Lumeniton electronic Ignition Purchased.
Spin on oil filter conversion now on the car after oil change of what I can describe as the most filthiest oil in the world was drained out.

Cant wait to hear her purr again :D :D :D

LWT Going For it Tomorrow

#68 Post by Lord Tolly »

Well tommorow is forcast as being dry so enough of the faffing about so I am going for a start up!!! :D

couple of questions;

what do you recomend putting in the dashpots on the twin su's???
want to set the static timing before I start up what size is the big nut on the crank pulley
and being a novice at timing how do I set it?

also tommorow if all goes well I want to take a peek at the spare engine I got only ting is previous owner was unsure on wether it was a 2.0tr7 or a 1850 is there any way of easily telling without stripping it down???

Cheers in Advance
Glenn :D

ATF is the best stuff to use, it doesn't get thick when the weather's colder and its excellent film strength means that, although it appears thin, it lasts well.
I use Shell Donax in the (Strombergs, but same basic principle as SUs) carbs on mine for the simple reason that it's what the gearbox takes and I had plenty left for the carbs after the last gearbox oil change. Any basic, cheap ATF would do the job though. :)

Fingers crossed for your starting it up tomorr... er, later today! Sheesh, I must get to bed sooner.....

Cheers John

looking forward to hopefully hearing her roar again.

Pity the weather has been so hit and miss the last month or so as I would have had her running sooner.

also got my brand new old stock washer jets turned up so will be hopefully fitting those too as apposed to the knackered ones fitted at the moment that have a mind of thier own where they point. :D

Well some progress was made today.

Everything was in place battery freshly charged up new coil on as the old one was a bit suspect.

cranked the engine over plenty of fuel but nothing!!!!

some reason I dont seem to be getting a spark!!! :(

checked all conections replaced points (electonic will go in at a later time when I get round to fitting it to my spare dizzy

checked the feed coming to the coil and down the low tension all seems good.

rain stopped play in afternoon so will try again next weekend when my frozen hands have defrosted

any Idea's fella's???
would a naff condensor stop a spark beng produced??? :?

Well had another look tonight at the lack of ignition and to be honest im baffled.

So I have called on the assistance of a good mechanic and auto electrical wizzard friend of to pop over this weekend and fit my lumenition and give the beast a thorough going over.

will be nice to hear the ol beast roar again..... :D
