Christmas shopping!!! what's that then???
Mary decided it would be a good idea to clean up the sun visors yesterday.
Before:
After:
Most of the paintwork has been stripped now, so I investigated the dodgy looking areas.
Probably need a RH rear door. The filler was covering a few dents & there is also rust underneath.
Right rear wheel arch could do with replacing, as could the left rear panel section. May do all 4 sections.
A small repair required near the boot...
...and one on the front scuttle.
Vinyl roof, headlining & sunroof removed.
A bit more welding/repairing than was first anticipated. Both outer sills need replacing, but I knew about those.

Did the vinyl roof need much puff to remove Mart?

No, it came off quite easily, with a hot air gun.
Malc, gonna fill the hole in, I think.

good job of those sunvisors. i hope 'somebody' is paying attention.
[although personally, i'd much rather buy some new ones and then moan like a whore that they're not quite as good as originals. then i'll buy an 1850 block to bore out for my sprint]

Probably need a RH rear door
This is always the one needed! Bloke on ebay was selling them NOS a couple of weeks ago, Chiswick, not far from Jonners. I bought one, picking it up on Saturday

Hold that thought!
The sprayer should be over this week to assess PFJ. When I know exactly what's needed, I'll let you know.

I wonder if it will need as much welding as Marts...that will be an interesting comparison

that is a substantial amount of welding mart, in some tricky areas too. I'll send George across
stu
Honestly.......

It is not my intention to "throw a spanner into the works" but how closely have you examined the underneath, particularly the inner sill structure and chassis legs, Martin?
The way the sill structure is welded together allows for rot of the inside middle section from the bottom up, as any water gets trapped here. So,if your outer sills are holed along their lowest part I would expect to find rot inside.
The back outer arches are pretty ragged. I would expect to find that the inner arches will need some work too. This is particularly awkward to access for welding unless the back axle is removed.
Also, as this is an early car it won't have the plastic mudshields on the front inner wing reinforcement sections or on the headlamp mounting panels? These areas rot from inside out. I remember taking what looked like a good front wing off a W reg only to discover it was almost holed, with little obvious sign on the outside.
Hopefully I am being pessimistic!

Spray man came over today & agrees that both driver's side doors need replacing. The other two have got a lot of filler in where the bottom of the doors have been dented (not rust) but I think I will try & find replacements for them as well (see wanted section).

Another thing...I think I may well replace the entire roof, as I seem to have one getting in my way. Thanks to Kev & Alun for that. (not the getting in the way bit)
