i've just got one

#1 Post by andyk »

just been to have a look at a sprint from what i can see its sound needs a new battery and a middle box but i think i will end up changing the whole system
the windscreen has some areas of delamination and i dont know if that will pass the mot
the car has stood for he last 12 years after a shunt which was repaired but took so long that the owner got another car and never got round to putting the dolly on the road.
my only concern is that the insureance company were going to scrap the car but he got it back and paid &1500 to get it repaired, so at the moment i dont know what dvla has this car as i/e scraped or just off the road.
the last thing i have to sort out is how to get the car home as i dont have a tow bar and i am not going to use a rope and tow it across blackpool
just looked on dvla web site it has it unlicensed, so i take it that means it was not scraped, but the colour is down as brown but i dont think i would call the paint job brown and it has not been resprayed

Thats been off the road for 12 years! It looks very good from what can be seen in the pics :D

Hardly any Sprints have the standard system still fitted, I'd keep it :)

Hey that looks quite tidy! Sandglow, isn't it?

I hope the recomissioning doesn't throw up too many issues :) Definitely worth rebuilding the brakes and clutch hydraulics though!

You can still buy the standard exhaust system components from places like Rimmer Brothers but it will cost you about 140 quid, for one section - so common sense is to purchase the full stainless sports exhaust system (about 280~ for the whole system?) and never look at it again

I'm not sure if you can get the original exhaust components cheaper from elsewhere (i.e. Quillers) but it may be the case - others will know better as I've never bothered with the standard :)

What no vinyl roof? Could it be a reshell starting life as a brown Sprint ending up as a Sandglow 1850/1500HL swap?

Well it's registered as a two litre, at least! :)

Last taxed at the end of '93!

Andy

Good luck and welcome to Sprint's. The bodywork looks pretty good so it must have been looked after. I would check out the coolant though as if it is just water you may find you have some head/waterpump issues. Also the suggestion of replacing brake/clutch seals etc is sound advice.

I replaced my Sprint compete exhaust system with a standard (twin pipe) stainless system..It's a work of art IMO,and unlike the sports system,it dosn't look like a scaffold pole with the silencer in the wrong place! [runs for cover] :) On the other hand, you do get a few more horsepower with the sports system..around (a big and earth shattering) 7bhp...not worth it i think, but as we live in a (so called) democratic society,it's of course your choice, and whatever you decide...enjoy! :)

Wow! that looks the biz Andy.

Can I be rude and ask how much you paid for it? No hard feelings if you don't want to say it's just that I am nosey and I'm trying to sort out finances for a car for myself.

Don't think the wheels ever were painted (only the black infills were)

A lot of people polish up the bare metal which looks 8)

Also the tyres may well have gone off (cracks in the rubber etc)
Not good if one goes pop whilst you are on the loud pedal

Should give you plenty of fun when it's all sorted though. Nice one
