Silverstone Track Day

#1 Post by Mad Mart »

I'm taking part in a Track Day at Silverstone next Monday. If anyone's got nothing better to do, pop over. Shouldn't cost anything to get in.
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. :boggle2: ... Still Sprintless.

Engines, Gearboxes, Overdrives etc. rebuilt. PM me.

The track day is divided into sessions. The MGOC has 2 sessions & the Lotus club have one (I'm in with the MGs  ).

Really looking forward to this but I've a feeling my Sprint may run out of legs on the longer straights as I have a 4.1:1 diff. fitted, so I reckon top speed will only be 110-115mph.

That shouldn't be a problem. I mean, you are only racing against sherpa van coupes...:D

I've told you before...it's not "racing" :) just a bit of fun. :D What could be more fun than leaving the house at 5:30 in the morning. :?

Mart, if you can change your diff ratio before I think you'd enjoy the day more, if thats possible!

Did a track day on the GP circuit once with my friend in his Westfield, the Hanger straight seems very long!

Raced round the national circuit in my Midget, had time to nap on the back straight

Cheers

I wish you hadn't said that Mark. I've been battling with myself with this dilema all week. I have two full days to change it, which shouldn't be a problem (famous last words) but then I have the Mallory track day on Thursday week which means I'd need to change it back next weekend (or not). Decisions, decisions

I take it you havnt done the gp track before then. In my rex I think I was touching about 140mph down there where as at bedford autodrome I can touch 150mph down the back straight. Straight line speed isn't everything, its about the fun but i'm sure you know that. plus the quicker you go the better your brakes need to be.

Mart, you could whip the complete axle off SFB? Not nice but if needs must.

I've spoken with the man who knows so I'm keeping the 4.1 on.

It seems to take longer & longer to get everything packed ready for track days. God knows how much weight is in the back. Tank full of fuel, 4 racing wheel & tyres in the boot; toolbox, trolley jack, oil, water & socket sets in the back. Ah! well, better safe than sorry. :D

...because, apparently, it costs a bomb  . Plus there's so much to do once you get there. Sign on, briefing, noise testing, unpacking the Sprint & swapping wheels (if dry).
