Ive been busy re doing some things on NFX in readiness for the rally season.Ive been using it on small club run events but now its time of year to do national events.
Ive allready got the uprated AVO shockers fitted all round to stiffen the car up and raise the front a little, and the poly bushes are fitted all round.Its got the rally style steering knuckle joint from the column to the rack and the alloy solid rack mounts, and its got T2000 bottom arms fitted to give some neggy camber.
All i need to do is sort out the sump guard mounts to protect my newly rebuilt engine.

so i go hold of some 2x2 angle and some 1x1 angle and set to

and replaced the old sump gaurd with the new one ive made

ive allready got a half roll cage fitted and a firewall behind the back seats, here they are fitted to my old car NGL544R

Ive also got all my fuel and brake lines routed inside the car as I had in NGL last thing you need is to rip a brake line off!
I fitted a tripmeter to NFX last week to help us on the important regularity timed sections

think you can see the sensor i welded a bracket the the stub axle base and removed the brake dust guards to let the heat out and stop some brake fade,i fitted the EBC uprated disc and pad kit last year i would recomend it and the braided hoses.

just bught another axle to play with and experiment with diffs.Fleabays a wonderful thing

This is mine. I now have std front springs on adjustable dampers. Always used stiffer front springs but with std much less oversteer. It opened my eyes

What type of rallying are you planning on doing, road,special stage/ gravel or tarmac. I am planning on building a a new car later this year with the BTRDA in mind. Though it about time i got back into the forests to a bit of ralling. Already sorted out the car/ shell and a company for the cage. Just going though the Blue book looking at what has changed in the regs since i built my sunbeam

i am doing some enquiring on a roll cage , where have you found paul.

Hiya Paul im doing the NESCRO series its like semi stage classic rallying, mostly on airfields although sometimes we do forest sections.I also use it for road rallying so kept the interior trim in for that were as in stage you would strip the interior like i did with NGL my old orange 1300.what spec you building up to? stage?

Rich try Safety Devices for a half cage thats where mines from, they on the net.

My cage is coming from Custom Cages as i want a muilti point weld in job. The safety Devices one is a six point bolt in type. The car is to be built to full fosest spec. Not sure yet if it will be to historic spec or just group B. Historic seams to limit the mods i can do and also the parts i use, therefore putting the cost up. Engine will be a sprint unit on 48,s or injected, ported head etc. with either a Kent DSM2 or a STR 139 cam . wide ratio box keeping the O/D. 4.5:1 cwp with Tranx LSD comp spec half shafts. Brakes will be 230mm vented up front and solid disks on the rear. AVO or Bilstien dampers with ADJ platforms and 2 1/4 springs. stripped out inside etc. may get rid of the glass and use poly prop instead again it depends on what spec i build to.

Paul, are you limited on what wheels you can use? You can fit at least 260mm discs inside 13" minilites.

No problem with running any rim. Was planning on using sprint rims on gravel as they cost peanuts, as generally a puncture will wreck a rim, if you carry on any distance on it. Tarmac I will run a 7" minilite if a go down the Grp2 arch route for the Slicks if not it will be good old sprint rims. It all comes down to cost. I will have about 10 rims with gravel tyres on. 6 with moulded slicks for that day when it don't rain and 6 with wet tyres. At minilite prices it is a lot of money. When the build starts I will post the build on here, well I will try.

One way to make minilites or other motorsport rims cheaper might be to fit ford PCD hubs and rear drive flanges. Lots more to choose from then.

good point, i used to run my sunbeam on the mk11 escort 4 spoke rims. They only cost me £15 to £20 a rim and i could clear 250mm disks with AP 4 pots

If its any use guys i run 5 gravel, 5 intermediate, 5 slicks and 5 road tyres. All on sprint rims they seem to stand up to rough going on a puncture quite well and i run the EBC vented disc kit from rimmers on mine.Road ans classic rallying on a budget

So i managed to find a replacement TR& rad from Macleesh

so ive cleaned it and the new fan up and NFX is back up and running,finally some comfort i can put the beetle back in the garage
