Castle Combe Classics Action Day 12th June

#1 Post by miniman »

Anyone fancy this? I will organise a stand if there is some interest, we had quite a decent turnout last year.

If people want track time it looks like £20 each session if we buy a club pack at £125.

James, I'm probably up for it.

Better off putting this thread in the Motorsport section, as I put it here for the last CC action day last year with no interest.

Hopefully James has got the entry form by now?

We need your Dolly/FWD/Latham etc.

What we could do with are as many static cars as we can (as well as track going ones of course) to get a really good showing. Usually it's just the track cars that turn up.

We also need to get numbers in asap so as to secure a good spot in the paddock area. So please add to the list whether "Track" going or "Static".

We should get a dozen or so free admission passes so the cost of admission will be free or very little depending on numbers.

There will be hundreds of classic cars to look at (may even be into the 1000s) and this is one circuit where you can spectate from anywhere around the track. There is a cafe on site & a couple of bars.

Sod it, put me down for one. I'll do my best to get the orange one done in time otherwise it'll be the fiesta again, although it's now so old it'll be eligible for classic insurance in a couple of years...

Would I not be able to go on track in my 1994 Saab 9000? It's hardly a classic but I want to hammer some Dolomites on track

Will definitely get on the case this week.

Mart - your line into Quarry needs work. The instinct is to hug the edge of the track after you come over the crest. I went out with an instructor and the correct line is to clip the apex and then aim for the traffic lights straight in front of you, then turn in when you're alongside the cone. My initial thoughts were "can't make much difference" but after a few laps I could feel the additional speed very clearly coming down the straight into the esses.

Yes James, you are correct. The same as I was told when I did the Elise course there before I started to partake in track days. I've tried various approaches but must go back to taking the advised line. Thanks for the heads-up. :D
