Well I have taken the plunge and am now the proud owner of a superb 79 1850hl with overdrive .The only probs other than a few bits of cosmetic work are rough running on idle and also felt something simlar whilst driving back up the motorway.It feels like a very slight miss does'nt cause the car to jerk but it does'nt feel smooth if that makes sense. I suspect from talking to the previous owner it's an ongoing issue as he has changed the carbs and jets had it rolling roaded and fitted solid alloy carb tubes instead of the standard rubber .Also it just doesn't feel crisp on acceleration a bit lathargic you might say.The car has only done 48,000 genuine so hopefully not a major fault.Any ideas anyone.
Good choice ! 1850s are OK to work on. Interesting colour btw, is it turquoise ? But yes, I wonder if it has just been MOT'd ? If so the CO will be set to <4.5 % and in my experience my 1850 runs rather better at a bit more than that. Not that I'd even think of adjusting it ! Apart from that as Jon says, ignition timing, points / plugs / HT leads. Just as a matter of interest the ignition timing markers on my 1850 are every 4 degrees not 5. Only found that out recently by accident when I cleaned it off. A strobe light is very useful for this check.

Cheers for the replys .I think the car was just motd so maybe on the lean side plus it has one o those cruddy rotor arms with the springy contact so have ordered the original type would i have to order a dizzy cap too as i noticed it has a solid carbon contact maybe to match the cheap type rotor arm.Oh the cars blue BTW
