Sorry Jeroen, couldn't resist that title, your input is welcome though!
These pictures came up from a RR thread about Race Retro
I spy a side exit, which I like.
Anyone got any more info or pics about it?
Just curious really.
1978 Twilight Purple Dolomite 1850HL The Lolomite.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.
A whole scrapbook. My rally replica will be almost the same as that one. I'm collecting parts for a replica for over 10 years now and have a lot of rare ST stuff crated on the attic. The special about my replica is that it becomes more original ex works parts than the real SOE 8M now has. I was offered lots of pounds for some particular parts by the former owner, who did sell last year, but no. It was tempting but to build something what must look the real thing you have to use the real parts. If you think MikeyB 's mimosa is original in detail you haven't seen my rallycar yet......
The main difference with my replica and the works rally Sprints is the quality. I was not planning to duplicate that also.
Excellent.
I spotted the side exit and then didn't feel quite so much the black sheep for wanting one on mine.
I guess it's a proper works rally car? What's the spec of it?
I'm intrigued.

It has the side exhaust because of the four link panhard rear setup. No rear exit possible. The car has now a normal "tuned" sprint engine but nothing serious. When this car was found early '90 it had no engine and gearbox anymore.
Thanks for your comments guys. Quite a few people came over and had a chat, so that was nice.
If you need any information let me know - it is producing just under 200 bhp at the flywheel at the moment, it will have the correct inlets on next - that will produce 10 bhp more. I have a couple of genuine Don Moore engines to play with if I want, but quite happy with it how it is - it revs freely to 7500 rpm and would go more if desired. The works ratio seem quite good in the box too. This was my first drive in it apart from about 10 yards at home, so quite pleased. A bit over braked at the front, so will probably take the servo off or reduce its power. Was fantastically tail happy on the Colways, which we put on deliberately to slide! Best bit of fun I have had in ages. We will upload a couple of vids from inside on You Tube soon. It is obviously much less powerful than our GP4 Chevette, but actually for an event like Race Retro, it is more fun in my view. SOmething different too - we had a good three lap race at the end of day 1 with the mini boys too!
We have an entry to Goodwood FoS too, so that should be a hoot, albeit a bit more dangerous - them tress you know!
Yes Jeroen, he did, and maybe sometime I will take you up on your kind offer - trouble for me is I am so busy and finding the time is hard. If you are over this way or coming to Goodwood, let me know. Ta
It was great to see and hear SOE saturday ,runs lovely, tail out on most of the corners ,i would like to see it on a longer stage though.
Nice to have a talk to you as well and look at all the work you have done.
Yeah, it's good the new owner does with the car what's it build for in the first place. I have some video footage of this car in action in it's day's. Both in the birmingham post and castrol unipart colours.
Barry - were we talking 1850's at one point? Sorry to be vague, but as you might imagine we talk to so many people we have lost our voice by Monday! Jeroen, would love a copy of the vids/DVD's if available. Ta
