Exhaust Ports

#1 Post by Mad Mart »

So I've just got my head back from the machine shop. On closer inspection I see these scallops/chunks/dents in the exhaust ports (one in every port)...

Now I never noticed them before because of the carbon coating the ports. Straight away I thought "that's odd, they shouldn't be there" so I checked with a couple of old heads I have and they don't have them.

I can't see these enhancing the flow of the exhaust gases out of the head!

BTW, the machine shop didn't make them they must have been there already.

I suppose I will have to fill them with something like this...

...then get the dremel on it. Not ideal but needs must.

^Brilliant stuff! Used it to fix the carb float on my bike. The satisfied customer quotes on the back are great too.

I wouldn't mind and do nothing about it.

Leave them, it is not important to have a perfectly smooth surface as it is on the inlets.

As far I know it was ment to use airinjection, but it never came that far.
You even can see it on the picture, the flat earea above the ports can be machined to take air lines.
Take an USA MGB as example.

Honda call it a PAR cystem, usa versions do have the air lines, Euro versions not.
