Bug for me please! Nice to see one looking mostly original and with some suspension travel left in it. Factory steels and Cross plies for the win.

That looks like a good little project! I especially like the 'Supercover' sticker that is still on the windscreen...

It's great to see what a difference a bit of polish can make to an old motor, to some it'd look a wreck but with a bit of foresight and plenty of elbow grease it's amazing what can just be buffed back to life...

Good luck with this one, I lok forward to seeing how it goes...

Sorry John but a Bug of that year would have had Michelin X radials from new (horrible thing they were too, lasted forever but zero grip on wet roads! Most VW dealers recommended a re-equip with Pirelli Cinturatos which in those days cost about £15!)

Hmm, never thought of that, they'd be almost 100% in aspect too, which would explain how they look like X-plies.

Yeah, I used to find that X-plies were cheaper than radials back in the early to mid '80s when the A40 used them but, the last time I wanted a set of the good old X-plies for one of the Reliant Rebels that I used to compete in autotests with, I found myself handing over £80 per tyre, for 5.60x12s! To put that into perspective, 155/82/12 Avon radials were only £32 each at the same outlet.
Shame the good old X-plies are so hard to get these days, I learnt how to drive in my Austin A40 on a set of really cheap 5.20x13s and am of the opinion that today's learners should be made to learn on a RWD car with X-plies and brakes that pull dangerously to the right at random.
