First Sprint Since 1985

#1 Post by Goodwood62 »

Having owned several Sprints in the early 80's I have once again joined the fold and brought myself a restoration project. It is a 1978 model in white, registration number AWK344T. I know it has been punted round e-bay over the last 18 months, but it has now landed in my garage. If anyone knows any history of it, I would be keen to hear it.

My plan is to build a recreation of GMH9N the Sprint that I competed in the BRSCC Road Going Saloon Championship with a friend of mine in the mid eighties. Anyone have a rollcage and a set of 48's for sale?

Welcome back. Will you be putting a resto thread on this forum? I do hope so. I've recently acquired a set of 48s & plan to fit them next week, if I have the week off. I'm at Castle Combe on Saturday.
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. :boggle2: ... Still Sprintless.

Engines, Gearboxes, Overdrives etc. rebuilt. PM me.

Hi Bill

Thanks

We sold the car in 1986, but I don't think it ever raced again. I did get a call from the Police about a year later who told me it had been used as a getaway car in an armed robbery! I'm not sure if it was that car, or another Dolomite using the same reg no. I can see from the DVLA that the reg no is no longer in use, but I am sure that parts of it are around somewhere.

Hi Mad Mart

Yes, I am going to try to post something on the restoration forum, but you will have to bear with me because I am new to forums. Your track Sprint looks excellent and I am sure you will have fun with the 48s. I have driven many performance cars, but I don't think I have heard anything like the induction roar of a modified Sprint engine with 48s, and the throttle response is amazing.

Castle Coombe is a great track, hopefully I will get back to the track with my Sprint at some time. I had a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth track day car for many years which was fun and, despite being built in Belgium, I always thought of it as a natural successor to the Dolomite Sprint.

Hmm - does anyone have a youtube link or similar where this can be heard? :)

good luck with the car - I think I may have seen it a couple of saturdays ago (18th) on the M1 heading north, on a trailer, around the Chesterfield area.

Looking forward to reading your progress!!
