Re: KLJ895W tinkering...
Is it worth pointing out that the TR7 uses an upper arm with 2 round bushes on an axle which is otherwise located pretty much the same as a Dolomite's?
Not that the TR7 is without problems, the high roll centre being one!
But I had also considered putting round bushes on the rear of the upper arms myself, with built in length adjustment like the tie bars on the rear of a rotoflex GT6, as an answer to the massive axle tramp I was getting on the Carledo when deploying the brake line lock in anger. However I got some super hard Superflex poly bushes for the upper arms (both ends) which has minimised (but not COMPLETELY stopped) the tramp so I left that plan in favour of the cheaper and simpler bush swap.
Now I have to admit that i'm a trial and error engineer and whilst I can see that there IS a twisting element on both upper and lower arms, during cornering for example, when the axle is not parallel with the body, the doughnut bushes in the upper arms allow them to twist without stress, but there is no such provision in the lower arms. Is this another contributory factor for lower arm failure on tuned and competition Sprints?
I'm well aware that beefing up one part to reduce the risk of premature failure just transfers the risk to a different part. But short of re-engineering the entire system I don't see a solution.
Truthfully though, i'm yet to have anything fail on the rear end of the Carledo, despite massive abuse with the line lock and wheelspinning starts, it's still on it's original 1973 trailing arms. So I'm adopting the mechanic's mantra, "if it ain't broke.........."

Hello All!
I hope you're ok, and you had a good summer.
Work has continued since we last spoke, with a significant milestone reached which I am really proud of.
Assembling the subframe....
Liberal application of copper grease!

To answer the queries posed by Steve and Jeroen, we built the rear axle up and fitted it to the shell over the pit. We didn't fit the spring/damper assemblies. We then articulated the suspension throughout its full available range of motion. It turns out that the limiting factor of the assembly's motion is the bodyshell, with it coming into contact with the wheelarches on both sides. Thus, proving that the balljoints and spherical bearings do not limit the motion or bind the assembly.
looking snazzy....
SHE'S A ROLLER!
The next steps are to start thinking about the interior, fitting the fuel tank, thinking about where fuel lines will go etc.
Remember this?
And these? That was alot of rivets.....
It is booked in to have it's vinyl roof fitted this week, another exciting step!
More to come soon.....
Thanks,
Pete

Re: KLJ895W tinkering...
Well hello there all,
I hope you are all doing well.
Alot has happened since the last time I updated this, not least with progress on 'Kermit'
Progress has been slower than i'd like, owing to an unexpected job redundancy, unemployment, pandemic, new job(but furloughed) and a house move. All within the last 9 months!
tow strap fitted. i'll probably cable tie it the valence or tuck it inside so it doesnt flap about.
fuel tank fitment, and various thinking about routing of fuel pipes and mounting of pumps.(more on this to come soon!)
radiator fitment, i think it looks great but somewhat exposed?
these look great and really set off the back parcel shelf.
clutch master cylinder and bottom steering column flange thingy.
brake pedal, sorry about the crap picture.
removable steering wheel boss slug, and thinking about where to position it on the column so I could still reach the indicator stalks etc.
steering knuckle, i may replace this with a forged one once i get the chance. the original triumph one doesnt give me alot of confidence!
steering wheel fitted, this was quite a proud moment. and to top it off, the steering is very light considering it has a quick rack fitted(3 turns lock to lock)
Let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks,
Pete

The holes themselves are an attempt at saving some weight and adding a bit of flair. The plates themselves are seatbelt anchors.
The shoulder belts will affix to the two M10 holes in the leading edge.
Engine is C20XE
Thanks,
Pete

Thanks for the questions, keep them coming!

Hi Dave,
I would imagine that an MOT tester wouldnt mind how they're fixed as long as they're secure, but i would tend to agree that cable ties wouldn't be sufficient.
Thanks,
Pete

Hello....!
Another horrendous sporadic update for you all...
fuel pump packaging and mounting, along with fuel tank > fuel pump line
fuel pump packaging along with pump > bulkhead line
through bulkhead and onwards through the cabin
door hinge painting
a snowy picture from last xmas, along with roll cage fitment
doors are a real struggle....
https://imgur.com/Dj4JzcR <<<<<<<< video!!!!
it's got a face! all of these panels are bolted so can be removed easily if required.....
Let me know what you think
Incoming: engine, anti roll bar, washer mechanism amongst others!
