Wood & Pickett Dolomite...

#1 Post by grifterkid »

Hello folks...

I have always wondered if those highly skilled craftsmen at Wood & pickett ever worked their magic on the mighty Dolomite...? Looking on here provided me with some answers but I am keen to know (and see!) more...

I can only imagine that the Panther Rio did pretty much everything that W&P could potentially do with the Dolomite so perhaps they thought it not worthy of their skills when they were knocking Mini's and Range Rovers out left, right and centre...!

However, a lot of their conversion work was down to independant customer commissions so perhaps a few Dolomites did get 'the treatment' as it were...

Anyhow, can you good people shed any more light on this? If you could that'd be great and if you have any pictures (if they exist) to share that'd be even better

Sure I remeber seeing a metallic blue one once on ebay with a fancy walnut and leather interior....not a Rio, still a Dollie.

I cant remember if it was W and P though, but it was very much in that mould...

Anyone else remember it? Was a good while ago....

Wasn't the W&P car once owned by Steve Grace?

Great to see it again!

I actually contacted Wood & Pickett today with regards to this and this is the response I got...

Thanks for your interest...unfortunately, all of the build info disappeared when Henlys' Group owned WP at the back end of the 80's as did any pictures from that time.

Sorry we can not be more help.

I cannot believe it, I'm gutted... Not only will we never really know about this car and its history but so many other unique W&P creations will have just been completely forgotten about...

I saw this car about 20 years ago at a local meet - it had a lovely black leather interior, including an armrest/storage box type thingumy and electric windows I think. They had also deseamed it and tuned the engine to stick out c 150bbhp-ish. IIRC it was running on 2" SU's. All in all, a very nice car, although personally I would have done away with the gold side-stripe and left it totally blue... Was for sale on ebay a couple or three years back, but I remember the owner wanted quite a lot of money even though he admitted the engine needed reconditioning...but a unique Sprint nonetheless

The 16v Slant 4 engine is more fun than the 3.5 V8, because you mostly drive it on the upslope of the torque curve.

Factory 1977 TR7 Sprint FHC VVC 697S (Now all of, but still needs putting together)
B&Y 73 Dolomite Sprint UVB 274M (kids!)
1970 Maroon 13/60 Herald Convertable (wife's fun car).

I see they want a bit more this time. No bidders yet though.
In Brid: wonder if there's a connection with the Dukes of Skipsea, who used to race Dolys a bit, back in the 80s and 90s.
