Hi Folks
We have today had a trip to the BIG SHEEP at Abbotsham, Bideford EX39 5AP to discuss the arrangements for DRIVE IT DAY on 21 April.
You will recall from our previous email (and thank you to those who have already responded positively) that we are aiming for 100 Triumphs to turn out at the Big Sheep for Drive it Day, to really make a statement about the number of Triumphs in the south west. As far as we know, there has not been a big Triumph gathering of this size in the area for quite a while.
We met Rick Turner who is in charge at the attraction and he showed us around. He is very keen to have us there and emphasised that there are loads of things to do, and it is definitely not just for children. We were astounded (and pleased) that Rick has offered that ENTRY TO THE ATTRACTION WILL BE FREE for the driver and one passenger! All we ask is for production of a valid car club membership card – any Club. Group Rate entrance would be £7.50 per person normally, so we are getting a great deal, he suggested this would mitigate the cost of our travelling there. We will in ourselves be an additional attraction for them, and will feature in their advertising.
There is a MICRO BREWERY on site, there is FREE BEER TASTING in the shop and they will be producing a BEER SPECIALLY FOR US – a TRIUMPH SPECIAL. From 1pm the brewery shop will be open for lunch time beers.
On site there are a restaurant and a cafe, along with picnic areas all with ample room.
A lot of things are actually UNDER COVER should it be inclement – which it won’t. There is a daily programme of events, including sheepdog training and trials, sheep racing over a biggish track, horse whispering, a themed combat experience etc. Rick assured us that the various shows are aimed at grown-ups and not exclusively children.
There is MASSES of parking and if they manage to finish the barn they are building at present in time, he suggested that some cars could be displayed inside, which could work well if we herring-bone them, which would not stop anyone leaving when they want.
He suggested a Peoples Choice of car and a reward for the Furthest Distance Travelled, prizes to be Special Beer(!),so we will have to work out how best to do that.
We are reckoning on various groups arriving there between 11am and 12 and if we get our heads together we can decide on various starting points.
We do very much hope that your individual groups and clubs will join with us to make a fantastic show of Triumphs and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
regards to all
Sue & John
