2.148 VED: classic vehicle exemption – The Government will extend the cut off date from which classic vehicles are exempt from VED by one year. From 1 April 2014 a vehicle manufactured before 1 January 1974 will be exempt from paying VED. (Finance Bill 2014)

Oh what an utter nasty cheapskate that guy is. You still have to wait another whole year......grrrrrr!

and then you get 1 more year's worth of classics, meaning all L's and some M's....

Must have cost him all of 30 grand....bar steward. I'm sooo voting UKIP.

5 years to go for me, by which time it'll probably be on a Q plate anyway.

That's great news!

Also:
2.151 VED: tax disc display waiver – To reduce tax administration costs, the Government
will put off-the-road declarations onto an indefinite basis.
The Government will also extend the
grace period to 14 days, following the payment of tax, on the non-display of the tax disc in a
vehicle. (Finance Bill 2013)
Seems a good common-sense move!

At last, the Jensen, previously one month the wrong side of the cut-off date, will now be tax free. I might even fill her up with the saving!

They will lose revenue.

How?

Well the DVLA is suppose to send out a confirmation that you have put a car on SORN, they are supposed to do this each and every time a SORN declaration is made by an owner - all fine and dandy.

However, if they do not send the confirmation then they haven't correctly logged the application on the computer - and who pays for their mistake? Yes that's right the owner of the car, an instant £80 fine and then others added on.

23 January 1973! I will actually benefit from a road related budget measure! The six months I buy this year will be my first and last for it. This makes sense unlike that daft MOT exemption for very old vehicles.

Call me cynical, but if off road notification becomes a one off indefinite statement, I reckon bringing a car back onto the road will become a much harder task with all manner of things to be demonstrated...and of course fees to pay for the privilege. All of a sudden it will become convenient to keep your car taxed!

I think the SORN thing is a good move. It means you dont have to fart about re sorning every year and its especially good if like us youhave a lot of vehicles. Its all too easy to miss a reminder thinking its for something else....

I dont see how it can be harder to get back on the road than a V5, MoT and insurance, which you can do to unsorn any car now.

He could have easily added a year now....its still longer than the 35 years that was supposed to be labour policy until they forgot and its totally out of step with euro neighbours.
