In a similar way to another recent thread, my car starts from cold with no problem, but when it is hot I really have trouble. It has been gradually getting worse over time and it's now so bad that it is guarranteed not to start when the negine is hot.
Now, I don't think that this is the usual problem of ignition (points, plugs, timing etc), I have noticed that the engine turns over significantly slower when the engine is hot when compared to when it is cold... I believe that it won't start simply because it won't turn over fast enough.
A guy at work asked a friend who owns a garage - they reckon that the starter motor needs a good clean internally - they think that it is getting hot (since it is below the exhaust manifold) and getting stiff due to crap inside the motor taking up the clearances
Before I take the starter off, has anyone else had this problem? does it sound likely?
Ok, thanks guys - hearing it's a common issue is re-assuring. It's got so bad today that the engine won't turn at all when hot - it's nerver been that bad before!
I'll start hunting for a new or recon replacement.
Cheers,
Mark.
