Ambassador Cap

#1 Post by VanIsleSprint »

I thinking about changing the cap on my 44D to the Austin Ambassador
one that has regular push on terminals. My question is where is the
best place to get one and is the Sprint rotor arm used.

eBay. DDB194 is the part number I believe and it's only £5. Sprint rotor can be used.

Really? I thought the sprint rotor was too far away from the carbon brush. I use the Ambassador or matching rotor in mine....which is on a TR7 engine with a Sprint dizzie.

Can I re-open this topic, I just tried an Ambassador cap in place of my normal Sprint one and it won't fit as it fouls on the back manifold bolt. Could be that the distributor is not in at the correct angle but the leads come out pointing roughly straight backwards which I thought was about right? Tried to get a picture but its pretty well buried as we all know.

Anyone else had this problem.

Russ from the pic it looks like the dizzy is a bit too far clockwise (viewed from above). Maybe one tooth on the drive will give more room.

If all you guys want is to fit a cheapo electronic ignition module that wont go under the existing cap
then can I suggest the even cheaper Maplin kit that keeps the points and can be easilly swapped out if it goes wrong.

Your other trick is the expensive lumenition magnetronic....but it does the job.

If you want to fit 8mm leads just ream out the old holes....

Jonners, I needed new leads and the shiny new 8mm set I bought comes complete with the Ambassador cap and red rotor.
Just for the record I am running Pirhana ignition.
