Bad driving.
Coming back from late night Christmas shopping I got an unfortunate taste of how bad driving in this country is. I wasn't in the Dolly, so it wasn't a case of run the funny little classic car off the road.
I was in the right hand land of a dual carriageway ring road, 70 limit. Which was fine, except what I persume was a lttle old lady in Corsa was doing 40 in that lane, precisely matching the speed of the car in the lane to her left. This blocked the entire road, annoying, but not dangerous.
Until a Range Rover tail gates me, scarily close, and utterly pointless. There is no way passed the cars ahead. Not wanting to killed by the 3 tonne idiot mobile, I decide to pull over into the left hand lane. Signal, at which point the car in that lane slowly begins to undertake, once again he can go nowhere , because of the cars ahead.
So now I am completely boxed in, have nowhere to go, while idiot number two undertakes me. When he completes this stupid maneuver, the Range Rover serves violently into that lane, undertakes me, and swings straight in front of me. No singals were used.
This at least meant I could pull into the left lane, and put some distance between myself, and the pending crash.
I meet the worlds worst drivers again at the next set of lights, I turn left off the ring road into a built up 30 zone. The Range Rover is impatient with me obeying the speed limit, and overtakes doing about 60.
What is so frustrating about this, is these drivers are a menace, an accident waiting to happen, but they won't be caught. Speed cameras don't take the licences of these people away.

Re: Bad driving.
The best way to put the frighteners on tailgaters is to touch the brake pedal so it illuminates the brake lights but doesn't activate the brakes (you don't want to cause an accident). Smell it? They'll be sitting in it! Watch as they back off.
The other day on my way to work (this was about 7.30 in the morning), I was behind a slow moving car on a roundabout. We both took the same exit on to a dual carriageway so I overtook this car. The driver who was on her mobile phone which was clamped to her right ear. I wish I'd stayed alongside her and got her attention.

Worn pistonrings and valveguides do also work.

A handful of old nuts and bolts and maybe an old water pump out of the window seems to help

This, much less people tail gate me in the 1300 now it develops a cloud of blue smoke. Nobody tail gates the 1850 'cause they can't keep up.soe8m wrote:Worn pistonrings and valveguides do also work.

I actually had a similar experience earlier in the year though, in the 1300 coming up to a roundabout on a 2 lane road, I'm in the right lane 'cause I'm turning right. Porsche 911 right up behind me despite the fact the speed limit is 50 and I'm doing... at least that... so he goes to undertake just before we get to the roundabout and immediately gets stuck behind a little Fiesta XR2. So there he is, in the wrong lane, Fiesta in front and me alongside, he had to go around the roundabout twice to get to his junction.

I find it funny how the worst drivers always seem to have the biggest, most expensive motors...

1977 Triumph Dolomite 1300 "Daisy, the Dilapidated Dolomite of Disaster" - Major resto, planned for completion 2021.

A big expensive motor is most of the time to compensate some other short comings.

Re: Bad driving.
I was driving back from Worcester the other month, and was over taking a bus on the duel carrage way bus was doing about 55 we were going up hill so I was probably going past at about 65. Idiot woman an an audi behind me tailgaiting and flashing her lights at me, as soon as I had pas the bus she undertook, me using a small gap between the bus and the lorry in front. Having done this she carried on past the lorry, cut him up and dissappeared down the slip road off the duel carrage way. Total nut case of an impatient person!

Re: Bad driving.
The Americans call that brake checking, the only problem if you get it wrong, the tailgater behind you has no time to react. I would rather let them go by, than crash into me.Toledo Man wrote:The best way to put the frighteners on tailgaters is to touch the brake pedal so it illuminates the brake lights but doesn't activate the brakes (you don't want to cause an accident). Re: Bad driving.
I have done something similar, my daily driver has an old Turbo Diesel engine. Climbing a step hill I had an expensive BMW stuck right behind me. I floored it to get him off my bumper, due to a lack of power I didn't go any faster, the BMW behind me did however disapear. An enormous cloud of black smoke completely covered his car, after that he kept his distance.soe8m wrote:Worn pistonrings and valveguides do also work.

Re: Bad driving.
Having been driven every speed for the last 100k in fifth gear, my 192K 1.7DTI Astra likes to blow out black smoke when under hard acceleration. A feture I take full advantage of when met with a tailgaiter while travelling up hill!
Re: Bad driving.
It never ceases to amaze me how many drivers dont use their indicators properly. This very annoying and dangerous practice seems to be more common motorways, dualcarraigewayrs etc. It seems to be one quick flash if any is ok [color=#BFFFBHAPPY NEW YEAR ALL.

No one tailgates me when I'm in the Zed car...not sure why
The standard of driving is appalling in the UK....is this me getting old or is it real?
Driving in Aberdeen is like the hard bit on The Krypton Factor....
