.........Spitfire convertible in British Racing green?

#1 Post by sprint95m »

Is there a market for a TR7 convertible?

I was told about a one owner from new TR7 fairly local to me. I think it is Brooklands green but was described as BRG.
It has not been used for several years and stored outside.
The late owner's husband just wants to be rid apparently.

I am thinking that the cost of transportation may dictate that this rare car has no chance of being bought and restored?

Any thoughts please?

Thanks,

Ian.

If you were to buy a car from down here, whoever brought it up for you could bring the '7 back down! ;-)

All depends on condition really...even if its given FOC its a few hundred quid in fuel to collect...

Condition will be key.
Photo's of bad (and good) points will help make the decision for any TR7 enthusiasts.

I am confused.

Is it a Spitfire or TR7 in green?

Just had a phone call about this, it is not a TR7 !
It is a Spitfire 1500, S reg, overdrive, 47K miles, one owner. Not used for 4 years.
I think it could be in original unrestored condition, albeit in need of repair.

I am thinking you will be looking at over £1000 to arrange to transport a car from here to southern England,
given that it is over £600 to Glasgow, which isn't even half way.
:( Sadly I think a Spitfire is far too common a car to attract a high enough price to justify that expense.

A 1500 Spit with overdrive in original unrestored condition is currently worth £1000-1500. Immaculate examples are £3500-4500 privately and north of £5K in the trade. The very best are fetching £7-8K nowadays, but at this level they are exceptional.

If there was an economical way of getting this motor down south, it would (very easily) fetch what is in my first sentence. It is going to be very difficult to sell left where it is, because of the location.

At the moment people are over-paying for restoration projects of popular classics, and this is causing some incredible market distortions.

I hope this helps Ian.

You could try Shiply to get an idea of how much it costs
I foolishly bought a 2500 on Ebay and got it shipped from Swansea to Beds for the princely sum of £205 (which I thought was excellent considering the time it would have taken me and the cost of driving one car there and driving two cars back, or buying a train ticket) Basically my car hitched a ride on a transporter that was already making that journey - which is how a lot of the hauliers conduct their business on Shiply...

:D Good news!

The Spitfire has been sold (locally) to be restored.

I hadn't had the opportunity to view the car (hence the lack of photos) but understand the car went for a good price.
More importantly it will hopefully be returned to the road soon.

Thanks for your help,
