Time to dust down your old CB set

#1 Post by DoloWIGHTY »

Have an old multimode CB radio? AM, SSB? Well after 40 years of campaigning the remarkable news is that they have just become legal to us in this country:

Amazing news when you consider how much these sets were outlawed in the 1980s.

I was a mad keen "sidebander", speaking to people all over the world. Odd though, when I think back all we would talk about is signal strength and what sets we were using when there was so much we could of learnt about each other cultures!!

Now-a-days of course I can talk to anyone, anywhere at anytime in the world free of charge and crystal clear with the use of Skype. But still nice to learn a long battle has been won.

You must have had some boring friends on CB...

We used to talk about religion and politics too...

Those were the days....Crank your handle. Must get some motion lotion....ten four.

Think mine is still in the loft. CQ DX etc...it all comes back.

One of our fave wind ups was to pretend we were miles away while talking to DX'ers from round the corner. Such a laugh.

We spent many a hour with my illegal set sat on Portsdown hill giving out misinformation and baiting local authority types.
Problem was my very bright red Audi GT5 with a roof covered with whip aerial's was easy to spot.
Some people are like Slinky's, they serve no real purpose in life but bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.
