PAINT

#1 Post by Karlos »

I need about 5 or 6 rattle cans to paint some repaired sections of my white '78 1850HL. Can anyone tell me what or where the paint code is located?
Ive googled for BL and triumph paint codes and there appear to be a number of variations but no results for specific Triumph shades of white and on what models thay were used. Maybe it is just "Triumph White" - I dunno..

Also does anyone know if the correct shade of paint is still available in a rattle can that will match? If so please let me know from where it can be bought.

Thanks,
Karl.

What number is stamped on the vin plate? Mine is code 19, new white, which Halfords will mix up for you at about a tenner a can.

Just checked the VIN plate, it is "19". I suppose I could give Halfords a go. Thing is, I hate going in there because:

1. The car park at any Halfords is a hangout for late teens early twenties guys who can not get girl-friends.
2. Halford's staff are usually best mates with 1. above.
3. The car park is full of Saxo's, Clio's, Fiesta's, Nova's, Astra's Escorts etc. belonging to 1. above, they all have the same 4" rear silencer and big alloys. Thank goodness Halfords had the sense to install speed bumps.
4. I find the Orange and Black Halfords logo slightly nauseous.
5. Halfords stuff is overpriced.
6. The only way to get Halfords staff not to treat you like you're off it, is to pretend you're a bit off-it or out-of-it.

I suppose it is not Halfords themselves entirely - more the whole having to go to Halfords experience as a last resort.

They used to advertise in Practical Classics which was joke as they never have the Dolomite listed for any parts like and alternator or starter.
My Halfrauds is full of stuff now that keep the car park boy racers happy.

Try Hex Holdings, They mixed my paint and you cant see the difference at all, The Halfords paint is rubbish, The paint came out so dark my front wings stood out a mile!!

Hex holdings mixed my paint for £7.67 a can, it comes in 2k paint which is different to spray but the finish is fantastic!!

also see my thread about when i painted my car no less than 6 weeks ago!!

No problem, glad i could help,

Best thing todo is to take the car up to them so they can match the colour, i took my headlight panel so he went from there, even though i gave him the make of car and the colour code off the vin plate he still mixed it up from scratch as the colour came up completly different from what was on the car!!

Let us/me how you get on with it, i found Hex Holdings very easy to work with, it was the first time i had used them and im recommending them to people so that should say how happy i was!!

Good luck and remember if you haven't used a 2k can before go easy as its different from the normal spray paint!!
