Climbing Kilimanjaro for charity Sept 13th - 20th 2014

#1 Post by Magenta Auto Sprint »

I don't know if I can get away with this under 'general chat' but it is not Dolomite related.
I know most of you will not know me but I am climbing Kilimanjaro next month to raise money for my charity.

I am doing a personal challenge this year of climbing Kilimanjaro to raise money for my charity the Drukpa Trust their web site is http://www.dwls.org/

Since 1992, we have mobilised funds to develop Druk White Lotus School in Ladakh in the Indian Himalaya, we have overseen the design and construction of numerous school buildings, received various prestigious international awards for sustainability, and we work with our local partner to support the education of 711 students, grounded in their own culture.

This project provides education for children in this very remote and economically disadvantaged part of India. Half of the students live at the school, coming from remote regions and nomadic families.

Our mission is to give young people from Ladakh the confidence and competence to succeed in the modern world, together with a sound grounding in Ladakhi language, culture and traditions. Ladakh is a high-altitude desert region and the only road connecting Ladakh to the rest of India is blocked by snow for about six months each year. The climate is harsh. Life is tough.

We are aiming to complete the construction of the basic secondary school facilities by the end of 2015 and the school has plans for further expansion to create a school that can be viable for the long-term.

if anyone feels like contributing a few pounds it would be much appreciated.

I don't see anything wrong with posting it here and I'm sure Ian and Andy P. will agree.

Let us know how you get on and put some photos up as well.

Thanks for this,

I'll upload some pictures, maybe with a copy of Dolly Mixture too.
My previous company Tube Lines used to have a monthly mag and staff ended up being photographed with a copy in the most unsual places; scuba diving, hang gliding, Everest base camp, Machu Picchu to name a few.
