LWT Engine Number

#1 Post by Purplebargeken »

So begins the process of getting LWT registered with the correct engine details. I have tried to find the engine number on the TR7 lump but all I can see is LM25WP and V3339.

Can anyone help re: clarification/location?

Thanks

Didnt the current engine come out of a scrap TR7 that was listed on eBay? Maybe Glenn can find out the reg number of it, then the engine number could be traced from that. Ive never managed to find a readable engine number on any slant...

Are you sure you are looking in the right place? They are never where the manual tells you where they are.

Try looking here, you may need a wire brush as they are often not very deeply stamped:

I doubt the ebay ad would be visible now as it was some time ago.

Hmm, I looked down and between the carbs and couldn't see anything. I will look again.

Thanks

I also would've suggested asking Glenn. Alan, that's useful to know. It would explain why I couldn't find the engine number on my 1850 when I took it out. Never thought to look on the other side of the block.

Good luck with finding it.
Its in the area highlighted in the photo, but my experience pretty much matches Matts.

The only one Ive ever read was on a gold seal....the engine now in LCO owned by Ricky.

Still might be worth asking Glenn. He may remember who he bought it from, who knows? the rest of the TR7 may still be in the chaps yard, all we need is the registration number and I can trace the engine number from that.
Other than that you are going to struggle, as DVLA need a papertrail and proof of purchase for an engine number change. "i bought it off ebay, dont know who it was, no engine number" is not going to satisfy them.

Matt is correct. When I sold an engine out of one of my Acclaims, I gave the buyer a receipt with all the necessary details to satisfy the DVLA. I'm sure LWT's engine change was done before all this was required. I've also remembered that it was the previous owner before Glenn who did an engine conversion from the OHV to the slant 4. He goes on this forum by the name of "Beefertoo" so it could be worth asking him. I sold him the Rimmer's sports exhaust that was on my 1850 when I bought it which should still be on LWT.

Edit: I've just had an afterthought. Didn't Glenn do an engine swap at some point during his ownership? The engine might not be the one the Beefertoo put in when he did the conversion so it still might be worth asking Glenn.

Yes, the engine in that car was one fitted by Glenn, it came out of a scrap TR7. Somewhere, theres a video of it running in the car before removal - maybe theres a reg number visible in that video??

Couldn't get to the garage today as someone had thoughtfully* parked in front of it. Looks like searching will commence over the weekend.

I'll PM Glenn to see if he has the contact details or any details of the donor car.

Cheers folks.

Right, found it. I think.

Phew!

On the carb side of the block as per the pictures. The black paint made it hard to see.

Cheers
