Start with the other project

Next week some welding to the volvo. I did decide to keep this one because of it's load volume. The nicest is that all panels are available.
After a call to mister Alun Nichelson in Denmark all arrived today.

Here are some welding pics. It's just functional and not a concours resto. I cannot do without it's space and the yearly costs are 42 euro for insurance a year and tax free.
The pics are not sorted.

What a horrible mess, you're not scared putting that thing on a 2-poster!
The garage is immaculate.

I can only echo what Bill has said.
Your panel man has a very similar name to our very own Alun N. His Danish cousin perhaps?

It is quite a mess but the panels are a good fit. All profiles and bulges do match the original. The thinnest original metal is 1,5mm so the welding is not that a challenge.
The workshop is at Hans at bccp. The car was more rotten than at first sight. There's also already 1,5m2 sheet metal welded in.

I think it's 1,5 day welding left and then some technical issue's. The car had one working caliper left. The rest was braking continuesly. I never did anything on that car, only local driving with building supplies but now is the time. Two years ago i did MOT it myself

but now i'm not working at a garage anymore i have to let it MOT and that brings some work with it.

I can't quite understand why you are doing all this Jeroen. I've scrapped at least 3 240 Estates that weren't anywhere near as bad as this one! Here in the UK 240s are still very reasonably priced and most are still pretty sound, is there a penalty for driving RHD in the Netherlands?

Me neither Steve

.
It is a 1969 145. In Holland all the classic car tax scheme's are changed in 2014. It was 25 years old tax free and now 40 years. All petrol cars from 25-40 years do have an intermediate tax system of about 120 euro's a year. A diesel or LPG classic has the full tax till it's 40. Then it's all fuels tax free. For comparison i did pay nothing for my cars and the only non 40 year car is my wife's 2500 on LPG. It's a 1976 one. Last year i had to pay for the first time tax for a (that) car.The road tax for the 2500 is 105 euro A MONTH because it's on LPG. She does drive a lot and before this was all intoduced we decided to keep a log the last half of 2013 and because the LPG does cost 53 euro cents a litre it is still cheaper to have it on LPG.
A 240 on Lpg would cost me about 120 euro tax a month and on petrol you do not want to drive one at 1 liter for 8 kms.
All the 40+ cars did raise so a decent tax free volvo starts at 3000 euro. A non tax free you can buy for 500. That also happened to all jags xj's, '80 benzes en range rovers. Worth nothing anymore.
This 145 does cost me only 42 euro a year for insurance so a week welding does cover all the costs and now i can drive it for a few years longer. A lot of non tax free classics are coverted back to petrol because of the high taxes so you can buy a used complete conversion set from 2-3 years old for 50-100 euros because there are plenty for sale now.

Good on you Jeroen. I don't think I have ever seen such a rusty Volvo. Great work and I wish I had the skills to do work like that. I am looking forward to seeing how you get on.

If LPG kits are that cheap, can you find me something to fit my 91 Cavalier (Vectra A) 2ltr 8V ?
