Rare colours...

#1 Post by grifterkid »

If this has been covered elsewhere on here I apologise for bringing it up again!

I am keen to know what the 'rarer' colours are for the FWD/Toledo/Dolomite range?

I've heard some names mentioned on here (Topaz and Emerald for example) before but what other hues are hard to find these days?!

It'd be nice to know the more unique colours in amongst the more regular ones such as Carmine, Honeysuckle and Pageant for example...!

Many thanks to you all

Topaz is IIRC Stag and TR6 only....
Just as well really....

There is also Damson - pretty rare dark red.
Slate Grey ( not sure that's the name).
Ice blue is pretty rare too.

And of course my favourite....saffron. Quite possibly the worst colour ever used on a UK car and also thankfully rare.

Delft blue is rare since it was short lived :( .
Valencia blue is rare on Dolomites but was common on the 1300 fwd (and the 2000 range).

I'm sure the 1978 1500hl I had thirty years ago was flamenco red. RIP: DUP468S.

Only ever seen one topaz tr6....at a Beaulieu autojumble. Chatted to the owner - next to me when I was flogging
a BGT a few years ago. It was an original colour so he said....and a latish one on an N plate.

Yes Flamenco was between Pimento and Vermillion so 77 and 78 only. Think Dave Poth still has an 1850 that colour
and there are one or 2 Sprints in that shade too....SFB being one.

Magenta - (only on Sprints in 1975 iirc) But perhaps more unusual rather than rare...

Last year while I had SFB in for a while for some work I had all three next to each other...

Pimento, Flamenco and Vermillion. You could unkindly say they looked like different stages in a solar fading exercise.

In the setting sun they would all look the same...

My sprint, YGD 342S, registered in January '78 is flamenco. Didn't realise this was a relatively short lived colour?

Am I right in thinking a couple of Sprint's were made in special order black paint...?!

I am sure I read that on here somewhere...
