A couple of questions on electrics.

#1 Post by 80Sprint »

My indicators packed up. 12v ok at the feed to the flasher unit. I bought a new flasher unit for LED and three connections as talked about on here. Earth was good to the third connection.
No indicators work, they do on hazards, and not even a static light on the dash. Suggestions ?

I don't think the following is related to above but I found these dangling about under the dash. Similar to the heater fan connections. I have yet to find where they would plug in to. Any ideas what they are ?

Colour is not clear but they are black and red.

They could be unused wires for the fog light switch and/or the panel light for the automatic transmission selector?

Hello Mike, Answers as below.
1. The two wires you have found are listed in the workshop manual as being fitted to all Sprints from VA15,001. They are probably White / pink in colour and feed items 6 and 84 which is an alternative heater motor supply and the radio supply. Though your radio may not be actually connected here. They should have +12V on them when the IGN switch is in the AUX position, so these items can be powered up without the engine being on.
2. Is this LED flasher designed for use only with LED bulbs ? Can you find the spec; sheet for this unit ? It may be that if you have bulbs still fitted in the indicators, it will kill off this unit as it may not be designed to supply the much higher bulb current. With the IGN ON and the indicator ON, measure the voltage on the Light Green + slate grey wire and then the Light green + Brown wire at the new flasher unit. There should be +12 V on each wire.
HTH,
Tony.
