Sprint Engine mount fitting

#1 Post by Magenta Auto Sprint »

As covered in a previous post of mine regarding gearbox alignment, I replaced the gearboxbox mount on my auto box and then concluded that it was probaly the engine mounts.
I took both out, check they were the same but I decided to fit the left hand side rubber the other way, as per the workshop manual I fitte the right side first

the left one seems to be impossible to fit, I have bolted it to the block but the last 2 bolt holes will not line up with the sub-frame, I spent hours on it on saurday, I have removed the starter motor to give me more room,

so at this rate I can't see me getting the car on the road for the summer.

any tips would be most welcome.

The nearside mount can b e a right old mare to get back in but the trick is not to give up.

Loosen the other side but leave the bolts in place to the subframe and make sure the steady bar is also loose.

Trolley jack under the sump with suitable bit of wood and you can take the weight. The mount should now slide about enough to get a slim screwdriver through the holes on one side...usually the front, then wiggle it about and the back hole should line up. I usually try and get the bolt through from the engine side and it will be easier with no starter in place.

A bit of grease under the engine mount plate helps it slide about enough to get in position.

Keep trying....and lots of sympathy. Its not the best of jobs...
