I have bought a club chassis leg but the welder tells me he is having trouble making it fit.

Does anybody have experience of these, are there any tips that can help get them on?

Since I wrote/drew them, based on my own experiences of fitting them, the pattern has been adjusted so that the small triangle shouldn't need to be cut out for alignment, but each leg, due to the complexity of shape is unique despite being measured up against an original. The alignment of the tube can be adjusted by putting a stout screwdriver or other such bar through it, as the angle can cary, but the hole through which it is welded is in the right place. Not a lot more I can offer really, except as any pattern part it requires a certain amount of tenacity and patience to get it to fit.

Did you get your 1850 auto back? The garage that fitted my chassis leg last year didn't have any problems fitting it (that I know of) but they managed to f*ck it up by having the bottom of the tube for the subframe bolt a few mm off (I've no idea how they managed to do it). Also there was excess weld where the bottom of the tube meets the chassis leg. I can only assume that they kept the original tube, cut the tube off the chassis leg (it was one of Alun's which a fellow forum member kindly sent me), and welded it together. This excess weld has resulted in the bush bulging out when it was fitted and ended up splitting. Fortunately, the subframe is having new Super Flex bushes fitted.
