How should the two rubber donuts at the top of these front AVO shocks sit?

Completely compressed and underneath the turret, or halved and sat sandwiching either side of the turret?

The originals sit below obviously.....

Like all shocks one bush underneath the shock to body mounting plate and one bush above.

Got your text.

No, that doesn't look right at all. Should be one bush either side of the top mount. Here's mine...

Did you get the top mount adaptor plate...

Yes I got the little top hat thing.

So Mart looking at your last picture, where does the triangular top mount go in relation to the two orange bushes, in between them? Or do they both go inside the top mount and the central nut squashes the bushes down until you are able to fit the top mount with out the top of the bush touching the underside of the turret?

Please draw me a picture if you've no photos! :)

Are any of these permutations correct?

Image

The top hat is retained by the welded on washer, B....

Image

Faces A and B must go together with nothing in between them unless they do this.....which is doubtful....

Image

So it must go like this.....?
Image

like I say,, somebody please draw me a picture!!

The third picture down is correct except one of the washers should go between the bottom bush and the adaptor plate. One side of the bush has a raised portion that fits snuggly into the hole in the original top mount.

Spot on - one bush below the mounting plate and one above the mounting plate.

Flippin' heck! Going to pop both shockers on tonight and then go for a lie down in a darkened room!

A million thanks one and all as ever!

Now, how do the rears go, as standard? :)

Awesome Paul! Not like this then!.....

Image

I found that spax image after a forum search earlier but couldn't work out how it went together under the plate......So from damper up....washer, bush, top plate, bush, washer, nuts......?

If you look closier at the both pictures - there is a washer either side of the bush - so starting from the bottom of the threaded section on the shock.
1. Washer
2. Bush
3. Washer
4. Mounting plate
5. Washer
6. Bush
7. Washer.
8. Locknuts

In some of these shock mounts some of the cupped washers have a small lip that locates the washer in the mounting plate.
These washers go with the lip towards the hole in the plate, one each side.

On the rear shocks the top plates are angled so that when fitted in the car the shock is inclined and points at the mounting hole
in the suspension arm. I can never remember which way it goes off the car, but it can go in 4 ways so there is a lot of scope for getting it
wrong.

I believe in another discussion on here the rear top mounts tilt downwards towards the front ie looking from the wheel arch view the top mount is high at the back and low at the front.
