sprint gearbox v toledo tunnel

As the toledo seems to run very nicely with the new" TR7 engine, and the gearbox and od seem to work (still no brakes, give me a few more days!) I offered up the old toledo tunnel. I was prepared to move the gearstick hole with a cunning "cut out and reverse" welding job. However, it appears the sprint bot is too wide and the tunnel fouls on the slave cylinder bracket and the bellhousing starter motor "bulge" on the rh side. Does this sound correct?

I think I can cut and widen the tunnel in this area, but concerned as I would have though all tunnels would be the same except for gearstick hole.

Any pointers before I waste my time?

Could try and get a cheap sprint bellhousing,that possibly might work.

I presume you mean tunnel!

Anyway, I will see how it pans out. I intend to keep the flanges untouched, just spread the front section.

I think it is amazing that Triumph didn't use a universal tunnel. Saying that my car predates sprint production.

The smaller engined and smaller gearboxed cars were developed first, the tunnels grew to suit the diversification of application. Had they started with the Sprint, then one tunnel would have fit all, but even with the Sprint Auto' where the box is shallower, they changed the tunnel to maximise space inside the car.

You really need the tunnel to match the gearbox you are using, or esle sealing the stick with the right bellows is
virtually impossible...

I've seen at least 4 flavours of tunnel. This suggests there is another too...

Sprint, manual and auto, dolomite, 3 rail and single rail....and now you have added Toledo....

Also HL and non HL single rail tunnels differ slightly in that riveted on clips for the tray are missing on non HL cars.

The dimmest feature is that the Sprint one still has the access bung for the oil filler on the wrong side....Why?
